Hello everyone! i'm going to be building my first PC next week. I've got most of the components purchased already and I am just waiting to buy the i7-4770k, SSD, and ASUS motherboard next week. Gonna be using either Windows 7 or Windows 8. Right now I will be using my old MSi 7850 Power Edition as my GPU until I can get a 770 or 280x (or something better). I just wanted a system that would multitask and play most games maxed out @ 1080p w/ single monitor and a system that will last me a fair amount of years with the ability to upgrade down the road. I know a decent amount about PC hardware and i've installed and changed several components before just never a complete system from scratch (I've never installed cpu, heatsink/cooler, thermal paste before). Any tips on the build or any suggestions about my parts selection/compatibility? or suggestions about gfx cards, thermal paste, case fans i should add, etc? also i only plan to overclock the CPU to about 4.0-4.1 Ghz (should be okay for 24/7 use) I would appreciate any info from you guys! 😉

Why are you using this motherboard ? There is no differance between the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming and the Asus Maximus VI Hero ! You should get the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, that is cheaper.

If you want to overclock, do it manually, you can do it with CPU Z. The CPU cooler will keep the card cool and silent !
If you are not able to decide between the 280x and the gtx 770, I recommend you the r9 280x (this is my opinion).
If you

Thank you for your recommendation! i did alot of research for the ASUS board making sure it would fit all my components. I haven't checked compatibility for the MSi board though. and i looked on newegg and there seems to be alot of DOA, dead slot type problems with this board. Although i guess that could happen with any MoBo you get. i'll do a little more research on the MSi board though. if it turns out to be a good option that will save me some $$$. hehe

ok i've got everything purchased now! just waiting on the cpu and motherboard and my Artic Cooling MX4 and I can start building. The reason i am replying to this is I have a little more room in my budget for a top-end GPU now and was wondering which would be better 780Ti or R9 290x? from what i've read it seems the 780Ti is the better overall performer but at the moment is $100 higher. i haven't read alot about AMD Mantle or whatever it is but i noticed it's supposed to improve performance for those GPUs so i was wondering which would be the best to go with long term.
also on a side note. what would be the best way for me to apply the MX4 thermal paste? using the pea-drop in the center method or actually spreading it out manually? again i have never installed a cpu or cpu cooler before. and seeing how massive the Noctua NH-D14 is it looks a little intimidating to mount lol

is there any specific brand card that is better than the rest?
MSI hasnt let me down before but now that i have the ASUS mobo and DVD-RW i'm thinking about getting the ASUS DirectCU II GTX780TI-DC2OC-3GD5. that 290x looks pretty tempting though at $100 less. if this mantle stuff will improve it down the road even more. but with all the talk about the 290x's running hot and being loud i'm pretty much set on the 780TI. money isnt an object for the gpu since i allocated around $900 or so i can spend now

oh yeah and i went ahead and got a EPS12V 8-pin extension cable too since i now see how huge this Cooler Master 922 is being a mid tower. that should allow me to run the wires behind the mobo tray to tuck all the wires and enhance the airflow of what already looks like a beast of a case as far as airflow goes

EVGA wont let you down.
