Hey guys, so i just built new PC
i7-9700K + Asus ROG Strix B365-G Gaming + AIO Corsair H100i RGB Platinum
RTX 3070 Asus ROG Strix OC
2x8GB RAM Corsair vengeance

This PC is very new, like only one week plus, i use this PC for gaming and live streaming such as Apex Legends and Valorant. Weird thing is why CPU usage is always at 100% when doing gaming?
No matter apex legends or valorant, the cpu usage is always went to 95-100% usage.
Usually it would be 15-20% for OBS (i use nvenc encoding) then the rest is 75-85% is the game itself.
  1. The CPU is running at 4,5Ghz (checked from task manager/hw info/cpuz) and temp when gaming and live stream is around 50-65 celcius
  2. The GPU usage is around 55-80% when gaming and live stream with temp 50-70 celcius
  3. I already full scanned my PC, there is no malware/virus
  4. No other software running behind except game, obs and discord

My game video setting is all low and disabled effects. So what do i miss here?
My friend who play the same game with me and have the exact same in-game video setting, his CPU usage is always only 50-60% (15-20% for OBS and 30-35% for the game), he never have 100% CPU usage, he is using i7-8700 (running at 4,2Ghz) + RX 470 8GB.

so your cpu is running at 100%? generally speaking on a system like that that should never be the case. we need a bit more info. whats your resolution, display, have you updated your bios? do you have anything additional running like razer cortex? nvidia geforce experience? have you tried launching the game this way? whats your cpu's usage outside of games with nothing running? with obs running? have you tried running obs stream with no game running? are you using OBS or streamlabs? whats your rams clock speed? how much of the VRAM is being used when you are running a game or OBS?(can view from task manager) and as the post above said post your userbenchmark here.

looks like this MOBO may have an integrated graphics card possibly did you disable that in the bios as well if so? if not you can also tell your computer to prioritize your 3070 in the nvidia control panel.

This was a complete build including a new install of Windows?

Go to userbenchmark.com and run the test. Post link to results here.

Yes brand new Windows 10 Pro as well, i even tried to use DDU to wipe and reinstall the gpu driver, still the same.
Here is the benchmark result : https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/37444514
When running the benchmark, i close all programs.

  1. Yes running 100% only at gaming, if i do common task like watching movie, browsing, video editing Adobe Premiere, everything just fine. It spikes to 100% only when gaming, somehow it is there is something gives command "hey when it is gaming, run all 100% prioritize to the game" .
  2. My display is only 1080p and yes updated bios.
  3. No i do not have razer cortex software or anyother software that possible makes overlays or run in background.
  4. Yes i have nvidia geforce xperience, but i turned off the overlays, so i never use the nvidia highlights or capture stuff.
  5. CPU usage just running fine without game, only OBS, then CPU usage is only 15-25%, normal. It's just the game that somehow have 'special priority to maximize the CPU'.
  6. Yes on Nvidia Control Panel i set to GPU RTX 3070
  7. I use OBS Studio not streamlabs OBS.
  8. RAM Clock speed is 2666Mhz or you can see above link for benchmark details result
  9. Usually vRAM being used when gaming is around 3-5,5GB sometimes 6GB
  10. I already gave the benchmark result link above

Also, i do not feel any game stuttering, the game just running fine 200+ FPS, it is just weird to see 100% cpu usage everytime gaming, while i asked 4-5 of my friends, all of them is only 30-55% for the game, with EXACT same video graphic quality setting.

This is what I meant by "enjoy". It seems it's running satisfactory for you. Those numbers look great.

Are your friends also using OBS?

I didnt enjoy it, i get high CPU usage spike mate 🙁
Still finding the solution for it.
Yes my friends use OBS as well. Even though they do not live stream, their CPU Usage for the game always around 20-35% only, but mine always 80-95% even though i do not run OBS.

Do your friends have the exact same PC as you? Are you all running the same exact BIOS settings? Do you all have identical background apps running?

You and your friends system arent really comparable, with that RX 480 isn't it weird that cpu usage isn't 100%. You on the other hand use a RTX 3070 where it doesn't stretch the imagination that you can run into a cpu bottleneck especially if you stream as well, remember he has more threads with that 8700. But as asked resolution makes a difference, think at 1080p you might have to accept that you will max the cpu with this gpu.

They even have lower PC specs comparing to mine, me such as i7-8700 + RX470 , i7-7700k + GTX 1060Ti, i5-6600k + 1070Ti, all of them have the CPU usage around 20-35% for the game. They never experience 100% CPU usage while gaming.

TLDR : my pc is fine for daily use, unless when i run any game, it will spike to 100%, if there are other softwares running in background total CPU usage for example is 30% then the game will use all the rest 70% CPU. If the total softwares running in background CPU usage is 5% , then the game will use all the rest 95%. So, the game always use all the remaining available CPU resources and make the cpu usage becomes 100%.

I've also check the Power Plan from control panel, some people said it is because the power plan set to high performance, i've tried to change the power plan to Balanced, still same, not helping.

was asking a question but whatever, just trying to help, why's no one else getting downvoted for asking questions? i get its not a cpu intensive game im just trying to rationally think why its taking more CPU than it should be without him noticing it. there i added a ? i hope it helps to make clear that im trying to understand it myself not just pull ideas out of nowhere

You're right, was abit fast with he downvote, but saying that 4K is heavy on the cpu triggered me. The question about the res is a valid and good one and is afaik already adressed above.

Looked at this and seems that the res is 1080p, other thing i noticed is that the bios is from,
BIOS Date20190725
Latest bios is "Version 1602 from 2020/09/08", might be good to update that and see if this may help.

You have only 8 threads, so, high CPU usage would be common, especially with a decent GPU , which you have...; but a 9700K's cores are 'strong ones'. (Throw in streaming, however, and high CPU usage is even more of a certainty)

I'd worry about the system only if it has stuttering/sub-par frame rates, etc....and not overly obsess over 'high CPU usage' itself as a 'problem'... (Would you feel better with 20-30% lower FPS min/average, but, only 50-60% CPU usage? Get a Ryzen 2700X)

As folks are wondering about resolution, I'd venture to guess it is almost certainly at1080P...albeit with pretty high FPS.

Yes i realize about the different core and thread of my PC and them, but the other friends who use i5-6600k or i7-7700k is has less core threads comparing to me yet they all have same CPU Usage while gaming. So, is my PC called cpu bottleneck?

what screen resolution is it trying to load at, 4k will surely stress the CPU?

1080p, i have two monitors and both same resolution 1080p.

Hmmm, im going to update the BIOS now and post new updates of it here asap. Thank you mate.

Yes the resolution is 1080p. So, you mean i should just ignore the high CPU usage as long as there is no stuttering and as long as the games fps run normally?

I'm curious, will this condition harm my PC or causing something bad in future if everyday my CPU usage is 100% in long term? because this build is for gaming and streaming and i plan to keep it for at least 4-5 years.

No 100% when under load is fine, if it at 100% when not under load do you need to start looking at settings, either in windows or the bios.

Another thing you can try is Nvidia DSR.Which render in 1440p/4k and down scale it to native. It's just a test to see if higher res does the same(which i doubt it will as your gpu bound then)
Right click desktop > Nvidia Control panel > Manage 3D settings > DSR _Factor Enable it.Go in game set graphics to higher than 1080p and see what it does,

updated the BIOS both vga and motherboard, still same, game always use all available CPU resource and cause it to 100%, i tried to do editing on premiere or after effect, everything looks fine, when i render the video, it use only around 70-90% after render finished, cpu usage then all turned down. So, this issue only happens when im gaming.

Yes i have tried that DSR, i set to 1440p and 4K both display setting and ingame setting, still same 100% cpu usage, if some softwares occupied 15% cpu usage then game would use the remaining 85% and if other softwares occupied 25% then game would use the rest 75%.

For somehow, there is something giving command when i'm gaming, the game must use all the available cpu resource till it reachs 100% usage.
I also tried to disable and enable the GAME MODE, GAME BAR & GAME CAPTURE that come from Windows, didnt help..
Is this what people called cpu bottleneck? cpu usage always 100% when gaming?
the GPU was always maximize too tho, when gaming the game itself will use 70-95% of CPU then the game would also use 80-90% of GPU as well.
