Hey there.
So, I buy new components to build a PC and build it, no problems what so ever. Until I happen to try and open Amazon.co.uk... Nothing happens, I check a few more websites and the majority are fine, but some have the same issue.
I've at least narrowed it down to the computer being the problem and not the router as two smartphones connected to the network and a laptop, all connected to wireless, have no internet trouble and are able to open any websites.
Just in case... Here are the systems specs.
Windows XP Professional SP3
Gigabyte-990XA-UD3 Motherboard
Phenom II 955 Black Edition
GTX570
2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333mhz
XFX Pro 850w
I already performed a virus scan and reset the router to factory settings. In the command window I can ping to most of the websites I can't open, for example Gamespot, but can't open them on this one machine. The error in Firefox is 'The connection has timed out' and in IE it's 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'.
I have posted about my problem on another forum and they advised me to perform a fresh installation of my Operating System. I had simply "transplanted" my old HDD from the previous machine into the new one. I re-installed XP however the problem persisted.
Not only is the problem still here but, after installing the OS I started to download all the regular drivers and programs, I got round to downloading Steam and it wont do the initial update. Not even showing a percentage or beginning of a bar. I open it and it does nothing. Skype keeps losing connection and I couldn't access Nvidia's driver page, these things I could do and would work before, but after reinstalling XP no longer work. So the issue seemed to get worse.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Also, Microsoft.com was one of the sites I couldn't access and so I can't directly download Windows updates or activate windows.
