Hey guys,

So I built a new PC recently and I've had a weird issue with my pc freezing, first time it happened a few days ago and again yesterday.

Basically the pc freeze but not entirely, it's like a massive stutter that last 4 or 5 seconds, I can move my mouse but it only change position every second and then come back to normal. Both time this happened seems to have happened in the same scenarios but that could also be a coincidence I don't know.

I always open hwmonitor to check my temps which are always pretty good, then i opened WoW and microsoft edge with facebook and youtube. checked a video and talked to a friend and wow open in the main monitor borderless window. Then the freeze happened. Everything just stutter big time for a few sec, like i have 0.2 fps. It is not just the game lagging, the whole system is. I also checked in the event viewer and there is no errors.

I installed all the drivers from my motherboard website, there was something a little weird there though, when I installed the chipset drivers the 3d cache driver was not there so I downloaded the installer form amd directly which had it , choosing my motherboard model. I was not on the latest bios version, the one just before that but I updated it this morning. I will see if it happens again.

The thing that bothers me is that it happen only very so rarely so I can't find a way to reproduce it and I have no idea where to look and as why this is happening. Can anyone help please, maybe reinstalling windows ?

My specs are:

Motherboard: Asus tuf x670e gaming plus wifi

GPU: RTX 3080 strix,

Cooler: EK nucleus cr360 dark

CPU: Ryzen 7800x3d

PSU: Sesonic prime gold 850w

RAM: corsair 6000mhz expo ready 30CL

Thanks !

You shouldn't need the 3d cache driver as it appears its mostly for twin ccd chips, like the 7900x3d & 7950x3d - https://www.techpowerup.com/312559/...-drivers-with-greater-3d-v-cache-optimization
7800x3d only has 1 ccd

probably why you didn't get it.

onto problem, do you have latest BIOS?
Interesting, maybe I should do a fresh install without it, I went after the 3d driver because it was causing an unknown device in the device manager.

I just did this morning, i had the second to last update that is from september 2023 and got the latest one, will have to see if it happen again. The weird thing is that it only seems to happen every few days. I'm worried it could be hardware related and it would suck to go hunting for which part cause the issue. I just hope it's not the CPU or the MOBO

if you got driver package from AMD and it installed it, it must be okay. I had read your paragraph wrongly. Asus having out of date drivers isn't really new. I normally go to AMD for them anyway.

the AMD chipset drivers mostly match latest BIOS so it might help.

So i'm going ahead and running cpu / gpu benchmark and memtest86, everything is going smoothly without issue.

I will also see with the new bios update installed if the problem happen again. If the issue only occurs only rarely from time to time I don't really care but I don't want the problem to get worst over time and i'd like the new pc to not have this kind of issue.

Another way to describe what happened is very similar as if you ran out of RAM for a few seconds eventhough i have 32gb

Will keep you updated
