Question New PC question for a rusty builder

Hey guys, I haven't build or worked on my pc in a good 7 years so I'm feeling a little rusty..I'm wondering if I can use the gpu that I bought in 2018 for a new pc I was going to build..I ended up buying a GTX 1070 and I really like the card and I'm thinking I'll just keep the card I have to save on costs a little bit..will I run into like compatibility problems if let's say I buy all new parts a new processor and everything else but I keep this card? would I be better off maybe buying a newer card instead even though it may not be as good? sorry if this is a silly question, I appreciate your responses..thanks..

Yes the GPU will drop into a system so long as your motherboard has a PCIe slot. You might need to set your PCIe slot speed to PCIe3.0 in BIOS after initial POST but you should be fine regardless.

would I be better off maybe buying a newer card instead even though it may not be as good?
If I were you, I'd just make sure you're buying as many new parts as possible, hang the GTX1070 up on a wall for posterity's sake. I've put my EVGA GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition on a shelf and as an homage to the good old times(when EVGA were yet around).

Why wouldn't a newer card be better than a 7 year old card with 8GB vram? Unless you are only playing games that can run on basic hardware (like World of Warcraft) I'd definitely get at least a 3000 series card... 4000 series if you can afford it.

I wouldn't dare pair a modern CPU with such a dated card.
