Hello everyone,
I have a problem where my gfs new computer reboots on load. Event viewer tells me that this is a critical error: kernel power 41.

CLOSER INFO
Her PC SETUP:
  • ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING
  • GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3060 Ti VISION OC 8G (rev. 2.0)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black
  • Kingston FURY 32GB KIT DDR4 3600MHz CL18 Beast Black
  • Samsung 870 EVO 500GB (system disk)
  • Samsung 980 1TB
  • EVGA 650 B5
  • 32" Samsung Odyssey G5

BACKSTORY and FIXES
I built the computer by myself, when I finished it, I just enabled DOCP for RAMs and enabled something for W11. Then I downloaded W11 on it and everything was fine so far. I downloaded all the drivers, updated windows, set them up. Then we just usually downloaded steam, discord, and couple of games. She headed up into the csgo, in menu everything was just perfect - so far so good. Then she started actually playing and after 2-4 minutes she got black screen and quick restart. SUS huh? Hoped it was just something random after fresh built. But suddently it happened again after 2-4 mins in game. So I started wondering what it could be I I found out that windows recognize only one RAM so I reseated them and thought it was it. Now there was both. But it happened again. I found out that there was kernel power 41 happening. I looked up for the web for common reasons and tried some windows settings to fix.
  • high performence
  • no auto restarts
  • drivers update
  • bios update
  • windows update
  • etc..
  • getting nervous
Didn’t help. Then I tried couple of HW things:

  • Reconnecting cables
  • GPU reseating
  • MB has classic 8 pin + additional 4 pin (optional) so I bought addapter 8 to 8 + 4 and tried that, also didn’t work
  • I thought its PSU problem, so I tried PSU from my PC (modular evga 650W G3) - I changed just a PS, not cables - but it didn’t work
  • so I tried another PSU from my work (600W not sure about certification) which normally runs rtx 3060 and is not modular so I had to reconnect all the cables. Didn’t work.
  • Crying over it
Now I tried clear w10 installation, downloaded all the drivers and steam only with csgo. And it crashed again. Now I am desperate and hopeless.

MORE ABOUT PROBLEM
About CSGO, it happens every time she is in game for about few seconds up to 8 minutes, never lasts longer.
Didn’t try other games yet. But actually tried some tests and benchmarks. Windows MEMTEST went good without problem, disks were fine too, GPU benchmark and PSU crashed.

ABOUT RESTARTS
So everytime this occurs it has 2 scenarios.
1) Black screen and really quick restart without even manufacturer logo. immediately get windows login screen.
2) Quick BSOD (almost even unnoticable) and "normally" fast restart.
In both cases after opening event viewer there is Kernel power 41 problem.

I have no idea what else to do. At this point I think that its not "software" issue. And its not PSU issue ( in case there is no need to buy 750, but IMO 650 is just fine). So I think it must be MB, CPU, GPU or RAMs. Maybe disks? I dont really know anymore.. For the last 5 days I have been doing nothing but assembling and disassembling the same computer over and over, testing, and failing. This is my second computer I'm building, the first I built for myself about 5 years ago with a 1060 and successfully. And its also my first experience with rtx, not sure if I missed maybe some important settings in the bios, something important in windows, nvidia.. that's why I try to be so detailed in the text. Thanks for any help.

You have a suspiciously bad power supply and you're telling us that this isn't the issue?
I think its not, because of that I have tried 2 more, which arent that super bad, or are they? As I said, the one I tried fractal design 600 was running 3060 without any problem and second one is EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3 which should be enough? Or am I wrong? You think better one can fix it?

The one originally mentioned is a bit sketch, EVGA 650 B5, that I'd be wary of. Less so of the other two you mentioned but that largely depends on the OEM for all of these units.

That said, you've tried two others and if they all result in the same thing, it doesn't sound like power is the issue here.

You tried running each stick of memory on its own?

Hello, not so far, tried every suggestion I got,... Didnt help.

  • Trying different configurations in Windows.
  • Updating drivers, windows, and bios to the latest version. + setting back default settings
  • Clear win reinstall (both 10 and 11)
  • Changing some components I had access to (RAMs and PSU)
  • I even tried RAMs in each slot one by one.
  • Reseating all components (this actually gave me the biggest hope as it "delayed" my restart almost for a half hour but still didn't work)
  • As far as I tried all I could find, I just ended up claiming RAM, GPU, CPU and MB.. They have already given me another RAM, now I am waiting for other components...
  • I think there might be some problem with MB or CPU in my case. IT specialist in my local told me the same.. Cuz I have tried really every possible fix...

Yeah same for me. Looks like it’s not a software issue rather hardware. It’s the motherboard or cpu I am guessing.
