Hi Tom'sHardware community :)

I'm having some real bad problems, I've just built a new pc however it won't turn on.
Every so often it switches on for a split second and all lights are functional for that moment, I was wondering whether this is because the mobo I'm using has already been used in another build. Before anyone asks me to view the Read before posting about boot problems! stickied post I've already gone through it.

I would love to hear any suggestions that you have as I'm in a VERY annoying situation.

Thanks :)
Sam.

Solution
Then it looks like the cable from the PSU or the PSU itself is bad. If your hard drive has molex power connector on it, try it instead of the SATA power connector.

Already tried it with one stick of RAM but still no success ...
Thanks anyway :)

I'm so glad you posted this! After doing this it started to run, but then I realised that it was because of the connectors I had unplugged from the PSU. I managed to determine what was causing the problem and it turned out that if the hard drive wasn't connected the system would start normally.

So I figured it might be a faulty hard drive? I put another one in only to find that it was exactly the same.

I'm a very confused person right now
Thanks so much for the accidental help BadActor :)
Sam.

Damnit. No molex connector.

It's a new(ish) power supply so that's a frustrating thing to hear.
Cheers for the suggestions anyway 🙁

A new advancement!
I added a molex connection via an adapter and the pc turns on, displays the Windows logo and then reboots. Not exactly an ideal situation but it's a lot further than before ... here's the video:

As before I'm still desperate for some suggestions as to what I could possibly do to resolve this issue.
Thanks a lot, :)

The frustrating part is that this is usually my spare PSU leaving me with no more to try. However, I'm not certain this is fully working, I guess my only option is to try all other potential solutions before blaming the PSU.

Cheers, :)
Sam.

Seems less likely to be the PSU in your situation. It's powerful enough for that rig, and you know it was working.

Do you have the BIOS update applied to support Haswell refresh CPUs? I guess if you didn't, it would fail to boot. I've never experienced this personally, so I don't know whether this situation could be an example of "failing to boot".

I believe I updated my BIOS previous to installing it into the PC, it would be a poor move not to on my part.
Thanks for replying however :)
Sam.

To my knowledge this is achieved by setting it to C0? Well, that's what I've done and it's not changed a thing *sigh*
Keep thinking BadActor,I'm relying on your knowledge at the moment! :)
Sam.

This is exactly the issue that I didn't want it to be, if this is the case then I guess I'll have to buy a new PSU. I'll buy one now and if it solves the problem then I'll pick your reply as the solution.
Cheers for breaking the news :)
Sam.

So, I bought a new PSU and have found that it's still not working.
Thinking about it, would buying a new mobo be worth it? That's currently the only used component in there, it would also be nice to buy an ATX mobo for my ATX case XD can't really put up with this Mini ITX board for much longer!
Looking forward to a reply :)
Sam.

Wow this is an old post does the motherboard have any troubleshooting LEDs like something that flashes in fixed patterns.

I had previously managed to get it to come close to booting however after replacing the PSU it won't turn on at all! Most likely due to me forgetting a cable or something, it's very cramped and difficult to diagnose with a Mini ITX board. I hadn't checked for any indicators when it was doing something (oops :\) but it was making a single beep every time it restarted, normal for any PC I assumed.
Thanks :)
Sam.

Nope beep messages or LED messages go like this: 1 beep for video card problems i.e card not getting power or not inserted properly into pci e slot. 2 or 3 (then stops then does it again) beeps depending on manufacturer for RAM problems and a continuous or rapid beep for cpu problems
