Hi Tom'sHardware community :)

I'm having some real bad problems, I've just built a new pc however it won't turn on.
Every so often it switches on for a split second and all lights are functional for that moment, I was wondering whether this is because the mobo I'm using has already been used in another build. Before anyone asks me to view the Read before posting about boot problems! stickied post I've already gone through it.

I would love to hear any suggestions that you have as I'm in a VERY annoying situation.

Thanks :)
Sam.

Then it looks like the cable from the PSU or the PSU itself is bad. If your hard drive has molex power connector on it, try it instead of the SATA power connector.

Let's put it this way, it wasn't making any out of the ordinary beeping noises. I had used this mobo for a year in another PC and there was nothing different sound-wise.

However, I would really appreciate some information on whether you think replacing a year-old motherboard for a newer and more case compatible mobo would be likely to solve my issues.

Thank you for the help :)
Sam.

Well the motherboard is definitely not the best option but I wouldn't say it is causing the problem for sure. Replacing the board with another is not going to solve many issues. What I would suggest is to troubleshoot which part is not working. Go to local repair centre and have them test your components in a test rig. If the board is faulty, it will be given away.

Great response, thank you.
Will have the parts tested hopefully next week, will be returning here to update what's happened.

Cheers :)
Sam.
