New rig for ~$600

Hello. I am about to buy a rig for a friend. He wants the computer to play some games, use it for college and some web surfing.
At the moment, we want to first buy the RAM, CPU, GPU, MOBO and an SSD.
I would prefer to be Intel-based, but if you think that there is a better AMD-based rig, shoot it.

An i3 7100 is a horrible idea. The i3 8100 isn't a bad choice, but I would lean more towards the higher threaded Ryzen 5. The i5 8500, with a gtx 1050ti is not a very good combo.

Thank you. But what do you think about changing the i5 for the i3 7100 and replacing the 1050 with a 1060 3GB?
