Hi community forgive me for my first post beeing problem description and questions but i never had to Open a post before, I found everyhting in existing threads until now...
So I try to describe in short what happened. I built a new system with my psu and hdd beeing from old rig. With a friend who got a bit experience we plugged everyting in with manuals and lot of patience. Then we finally start pc, it seemed to run fine but no video was shown. I realized the GPU fans arent spinning so we turn everything off and decide to put it in the lower pci slot instead. Now comes the part where problems happened due to my brainafkness I unplugged 8 pin cpu because its cable was in the way, put the gpu in the slot and start pc without either cpu 8 pin nor pcie cables for gpu beeing plugged in...it started for a second or so with slowly running fans and turned off after that. Luckily no burnt smell. I still panicked and put the pcie cables in gpu while still forgetting about the cpu 8 pin, my friend reminded me just after i press on the power button. But at this point nothing happened at all no boot up.I put the 8 pin cpu in trying again to power on, nothing again just no reaction. The only thing showing there is power is a red led right at the 24 pin mainboardplug glowing .So I spent all workday googling and so and found that Most say psu or mainboard could be damaged...i suspect the psu as its old and I really hope its this part...
I will try the thread with the steps for post/boot problems when I am at home and wanted to us the time in train to write this. I will respond with more infos when I did this, anyone got an idea already what it could be?

Thanks in advance i am really angry on myself... I spent so much money and rushed the last steps only to potentially kill all the work :(

so you say you tried to start the PC without feeding the CPU and GPU some power, i guess.

That wouldn't be no problem, at least theoretically.....

Try to reset the CMOS. Do this:

You will need a paperclip/screwdriver/some metallic stuff for this. Also a flashlight is welcome (or just do it with day light):

1st-> open PC.
2nd -> search the CLR_CMOS pins. should be something like this:

01-two-pins.jpg

3rd -> touch both pins with the metallic (something that is conductive) stuff, so it short circuits, for 5 seconds at least.
4th -> BIOS should be reset to factory default.
5yh -> yey

So I resetted cmos and tried again. Still nothing happens expect the red led glowing :(

Edit: sorry for double posting. I tried now to only plug the front headers and one ram stick, 24pin power and 8 power pin. And cpu fan in. Still nothing. Maybe its important to mention I delid my cpu but I was really careful and dont think something went wrong there. Also very small amount of paste.

well my next advise is to remove everything, except the CPU and 1 stick of RAM.

Feed the board, and feed the CPU. Try to turn it on. If still nothing, it will have to be the motherboard or the CPU, but I'm guessing it will be the board....

What are your system specs?

Edit: lol i just saw you tried this already... well mate.... i guess you will have to test all your components on another motherboard.... If it works, you will have to say bye bye to that mobo :( (90% positive this will happen, sory...)

Alright I cant test them on a other board as my old one is... to old old for the newcomponents. I gave it to a local computer store they are checking it and calling tomorrow. The guy working there also suspects the board or maybe cpu because of delid. Only the board broken wouldnt be that bad because I could try to rma it and if not it still isn't as expensive as cpu(+board)... Hoping for the best, thank you for the help so far. I will update tomorrow when I know more.

So the guys in the store figured it out...I used my old psu and its 5v output wasnt working right which killed my cpu :( because of delid there is no rma possibility so yeah i wasted that money. Board is working on the hardware site but they couldnt test bios and the guy said I should rma it to be safe. Its 10 euro cheaper now too.

Well at first thanks for your compassion, fast few days were just horrible^^.
But I already got a new 6600k, one of the few still available in germany together with a new high quality psu. And the system is finally running fine now! What makes me feel much better is that I didnt fuck it up because of installation mistakes like the forgotten cable but because of unluck mainly . Its like my psu picked the only pcpart without warranty to kill it.
Yes of course you can now the speecs.
Cpu: i5 6600k
Cooler: mugen3
Psu: corsair 650tx (the killer) , evga supernova b1 750w the new one
Board: msi gaming m5
