Question new rtx 5080 installed and now cant use certain resolutions anymore

i went from a 2080 ti to a 5080 today. i have a alienware 2725df 360hz 1440p oled monitor.

on my 2080ti i had all the regular resolutions but for some reason after putting the 5080 in i only have a select few.

may i also say in the old setup for custom resolutions to appear in game for me i had create them under a 2nd monitor ( 2304x1440) but now this doesnt work either.

i have tried a older driver and that done nothing, i also only the option to use display as my scaling mode.

Yeah im losing my mind trying different solutions but nothing is working its almost like the 5080 just doesn't support any of this and if so i actually might send it back

What interface are you using to connect to the display (HDMI or DisplayPort)? Or, does it matter?

Also, have you installed the actual drivers for the display itself (not the Nvidia drivers)?

Display port and the cable is the exact same cable as the one i used before its a dell cable than came with the monitor.

i assume i have the drivers because i tried going to device manager and updating them from there and nothing came up.

Install the drivers listed on Dell's site. After installing, restart your system and see if anything changes.

Install the drivers, as suggested for this, too.

Also, consider swapping to a quality DP cable. The ones included with displays are often mediocre, at best.

yeah installed the drivers and firmware update and it changed nothing, like i said its randomly choosing whether i can use 240hz or 360hz and i literally had no issues with the 2080 ti installed apart from the being able to create a custom res on the main monitor but that was fixed by creating them on 2nd monitor as they would show up in game anyways

DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.4 cable (1.80 meters), thats the cable?

The cable you are using could have a lot to do with that behavior. You can also try using another port on the GPU.

tried that already. on the alienware website it states that when using the DP provided it should run 360hz at native res

• 2 x DP 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3)(Supports up to QHD 2560 x 1440 360 Hz, HDR, VRR)
• 1 x HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3)(Supports up to QHD 2560 x 1440 144 Hz TMDS, HDR, VRR as per specified in HDMI 2.1)

does this mean that the upper end (360hz) should done with the higher end cable ( DP HDCP 2.3)

The DP port is capable of achieving 360hz. HDMI 144hz. The HDCP versions are references to supported standards.

yeah i understand and i will get my hands on a better cable asap but for now i did some research and it seems to be a nvidia issue as the notes for the drivers has stated this

• [RTX 50 series] NVIDIA Control Panel setting "Perform scaling on" missing "GPU" option when connected to a monitor in DSC mode [5156168]

as my cable is 1.4 meaning its using DSC to achieve the 360hz. i have a feeling thats all linked to the missing resolutions and custom res issues too.
