Please help
I built a Ryzen 5 1600 computer with MSi B350m Mortar Arctic, 16gbs of 2400mhz GSkill memory, 750w Seasonic X Series power supply. It powers on fine, lights turn on, on fans, led strip, case, motherboard leds etc, but there is no display on my monitor. My DVI cable IS plugged in my GTX 980 Gigabyte graphics card, not the motherboard. All my psu cables are plugged in fine. It just doesn't boot into the Windows 10 USB I'm borrowing, and which I know works.
I can't even do bios updates/flashes as the pc won't go past the blank screen.
I'm thinking I should set up my ssd with windows on a working computer, then see if this pc will boot from that ssd.
Thanks for help in advance.

Solution
Try resetting CMOS by using a jumper on clr_cmos pins or removing a battery for a few minutes then put it back. Unplug the PC from the wall beforehand, of course. Then try again.

If your monitor can use multiple inputs, make sure it is configured to use DVI input. You can also try to use HDMI or DP or whatever else your GPU has, simply to prove that it can display image. If your monitor has no HDMI, connect your GPU to TV just for test.
So these are your specs:
CPU: R5 1600
Motherboard: MSI B350M Mortar
Ram: 2x8GB DDR4-2400MHz
SSD/HDD:
GPU: Gigabyte GTX980
PSU: 750W Seasonic X
Chassis:
OS: Windows 10

Have you followed through the guide to building your PC? Even enthusiasts tend to forget that a cable or two wasn't plugged in.

Am I supposed to have my 120gb ssd plugged in at the same time as the windows 10 usb?
Remember me? xD
I've completely changed my build since you originally helped me.
I also got a NZXT H440 Red for $185 NZD off a friend as my chassis, and still have my 2tb drive for video, photo and music files.
It's a B350M Mortar Arctic.

I'll check and see again if all the cables are in

There are two 8 pin PCI-E cables plugged into the two power connectors on the graphics card. Yes the DVI is plugged into the GPU, not the motherboard, as I specified before.

Took out one of the ram sticks and left the other in. No cigar.
Triple checked and all connectors are firmly in place.
Researched and ram shouldn't be a compatibility issue. Apparently in my research, about 3 other people on the internet have said the same problem with the R5 1600 and the B350M Mortar Arctic.

Like I said in the forum question, all the lights turn on, all fans spin, just blank screen.

Ok: quite a few things have happened. I put a speaker in. No beeps happen. When I turn on the system, the CPU Debug led on my motherboard is on for like 3 seconds then turns off. My external USB drive has it's led on which means it is on and powered, but my mouse and keyboard don't seem to be on, as in their LEDs aren't going. Also my headset LED isn't going either.

Solution

Ok so I've unplugged the pc, taken out the battery, put the dvi cable in the other slot. I have no idea how to to reset the bios using the motherboard connectors as there was no tool included with the motherboard to put over the pins to reset it?
I'll leave the battery out for another half an hour, then will see what happens

I'm not sure if the MSI boards are like the others, but I've seen that Ryzen systems go through a couple of restarts when they are first built. Can you tell if your system is doing that? My AsRock system would never stop with the auto-restarts. One component at a time finally led me to find that I had a picky RAM problem until I updated to the latest BIOS.

You need to only worry about getting past POST, so no need for anything with Windows loaded on it. Once you solve the problem and it gets past POST, it should give you an option to enter SETUP or proceed with DEFault values. After that, it will look for an OS. When you get to this point, THEN you can power off the pc, disconnect power and install your HDD/SSD for Windows installation/boot.

Ok, so I've tried everything again, listening closely, I can hear it restarting it's cycle of rebooting, fans go quieter then go louder again. Also CPU Debug light is always on now.

WOW I put the battery out of it, held power button to clear power out of system, put in CMOS battery back in and IT BOOTS INTO THE BIOS WOW!
Thank you so much for your help guys, it really means a lot to me!
