current system specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 CPU
8GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GA-990-FXA-UD3 Mobo
HIS Radeon HD 6850 IceQ Gpu
Corsair TX 750W Psu
*Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Upon installing the new r9 280x I get no signal to my tv or monitor using hdmi or dvi cables and (presumably) no post or successful OS boot. After I plug in my old gpu every boots up perfectly. I tried clearing cmos, updating bios, and using different 6+2 pin pci-e cables. I was looking into changing pci rom priority to legacy from efi but couldn't seem to find anything like that in my bio settings so I just assumed it was unsupported feature of my mobo. I need to find some time to take the gpu to a buddies house to confirm a DOA just trying to do everything I can to prevent going through an RMA process -____-

Solution
Well, as always it's a drag that the hardware is bad, but at least you know what it is now and can get it resolved. Not knowing is worse than knowing, even when it means something has to be replaced. Good luck with the replacement process.

You keep this behavior up and you're going to find yourself banned. We don't need Spartan attitudes around here or childish behaviors. Grow up. This forum is about helping people, not being right, or wrong. When the most likely solution fails to correct the issue, you move on to the next most likely issue. That's how it works.

Jumping up and down and stomping your feet might work with your mom, but it doesn't cut it here.

is that the pot calling the kettle black.. who jumped in here with that how I don't know what I'm doing and said it the uefi ?? funny your help is now where I started ???

have you went back and re read what you said toward me ????

see I say ''if that psu pci-e is not right and not powering the card as it should ???? or insure the pci- lead's are fully plugged in to the back of the psu and got good contact there as well ''

then you say-- ''Junkeymonky, you don't seem to understand that this is not a windows or driver issue. There is NO display after power on. It does NOT have anything to do with drivers or uninstalling or operating systems. This is a pre-windows issues related to hardware, not software. It does not have any display capabilities, not for bios, not for POST, nothing. There is no way for it to be driver related, period. '''

then you say -- '' This is almost certainly a UEFI vs non-UEFI issue, as I first indicated and as backoffman noted as well. My last Sapphire 280x had a small UEFI button on the card and with it lit, would not boot in any older system. I can't determine if your card has this or not by the details on the product page but it's worth checking your card visually to verify. Aside from that, the info backoffman provided regarding the firmware may be your best direction for now if everything else is in order''

so now what ??? foot in mouth don't taste so good do it ??

This thread proves that your forte is trolling 970 threads and that's about it!

And just for the record, I had NOT contacted any moderators and am no more "good buddies" with mousemonkey than with any other member. I had no other discussions with anybody other than what is posted here. It's likely somebody else may have as it seems perhaps I'm not the only one who feels your behavior is unwarranted.

Confirmed defective card. Exact same thing with my buddies rig rocking the exact same card, no post or display after installing it on his rig. Thank you all very much for all of your help, you are all wonderful.
