I bought a new Seagate 6TB NAS HDD to use as a storage upgrade in my desktop. As you will see in the picture it has less than 100hrs of use. I have noticed that it makes a sound every 5-7 seconds and have learned that the sound is the heads parking. The previous drive(Seagate 2TB FireCudaSSHD) did not make the noise. I have never owned a NAS drive before so I am not aware that it is a problem, or is normal. I read on some other forum posts about using software to get the drive info so I used Crystal Disk and found that my cycle count is over 15,000. My understanding is that the heads constantly parking has something to do with APM. I have read posts, watched YouTube vids, and looked into using Crystal Disk to manage APM but all of the buttons in Crystal Disk>>Function>>Advanced Features>>AAM/APM Control are grayed-out for me and some YouTubers suggest making changes to Windows registry.
Before I attempt to get rid of the sound on my own, my questions are:
1. Is it normal for NAS drives to make these "head-parking" sounds every 5-7 seconds?
2. Is 15,000+ cycle count high for the amount of hours on?
3. How do I disable APM for the drive?
