Did you click the links andraxxus posted? The 5870 has doubled most stuff on the 4870. Some a little more than double, the only thing that didn't double up or more is the bandwith which is by far the least important.

A 4870x2 would have very similar stats to a single 5870, but suffers from xfire scaling. Think about a slightly more powerful 4870x2, with higher clockspeeds, no xfire penalty and far superior overclocking potential.

That is a 5870.

The 4870 was a lot more powerful than a 3870x2. In fact the 4850 was just as powerful as the 3870x2.

ATI have made that again with room to spare, if not actually increased the gap. I will be very surprised, looking at those crysis benchmarks, if the 5870 is not even more of a power increase over the 4870x2 than what the 4870 was over the 3870x2.

If Nvidia haven't made a simalar jump, they might as well forget all about it this round.

the 3870x2 had higher clocks, fewer shaders, than the 4870, and lost. The 5870 appears to have the same shader counts, but has a higher core speed than the 4870x2.
Itll have faster ram, wont have to deal with cf, has a better schedular, appears to have a better usage of memory as well, and yes, itll beat the a 4870x2, and beats anything nVidia has as well, its simply the fastest single card out

Im really really disappointed in nVidia in only being able to release 6 cards in almost 2 years, with still nothing on the horizon.
I was hoping nVidia would at least show for a new DX, or even a new OS, but guess not, they must be having many problems

I agree that the leaks point that the HD 5870 should stomp on everything (as it should be ~20% faster than the HD 4870X2/GTX295), however, to blatantly say it IS as powerful as 4890CF and it IS a lot more powerful than an HD 4870X2 should not be done, as we don't have reliable, conclusive evidence.

If you're speculating on leaks, do not state things as fact. When JDJ says things based on links, he uses words like "should be" "appears to" and such. Take note of it, it's the reason he has credibility, and many who have similar views do not.

Though I am on your side, I believe the HD 5850 will be roughly equal to the HD 4970X2, and the HD 5870 should be a solid 20% above the GTX295, that is, if the leaks are correct/unaltered/etc.

Does anyone else find 190 watts for the HD 5870 and 170 watts for the HD 5850 to be a little high? I mean, doesn't the HD 4850 only pulls like... 110watts? I realize they look like they'll be beasts, but wow. Maybe my memory is a little off....

I'm expecting it to stomp on the 295.

Well. Two good cards in row. Not so bad at all. The chip is actually a guite bit larger than previous, so the increased price is in line with that aspect. It will be really interesting to see what 4770 upgrade will be like. DX11 ofcourse, but if there is any speed increase allso, it would be interesting card allso in cheaper price segment, when the uppper part is going to be more expensive than 48xx series.

If an 8800 Ultra still sells for 350.00$ (new) on e-bay, I doubt the 285 will ever cost 200.00$.... Would be nice thou..... 😉
