so i bought new SSD 1 tb (Samsung)
to add as slave to system that currently has 1tb SSD (crucial)
Well io bought it thinking my crucial was fried, but turned out it wasn't so i would like to use both

simple right?
i connected the SSD to sata port, power off the sata cable that the crucial is connected to
- nothing nowhere is it getting recognized... not in bios, not in Samsung magician, not in file explorer not in disk manager - not seen in device manager

i swapped power and satat cables with the crucial - so that way there i knew the crucial is/was working fine.... so but nothing flat nothing

What am i doing wrong or can it be a bad new ssd?? got it from Newegg- chances are slim for that right?

So instead of piggy-backing it on the crucial power cable i put one in dedicate for the Samsung... nothing !

wth... what am i missing here ??

pls thx

Solution
Might have to power reset it. Boot up as normally would with both drives installed but leave the pc running for 15minutes. Then shutdown and reboot. Most power resets directions say 5minutes is all that's needed, 15minutes is a sure thing if that's what it takes. Samsung run like Champs when they do run, but sometimes they need a swift kick in the...... to get going on initial startup.

ok will try that power reset succinctly- but pretty sure having fooled around with running stuff as admin and trying and refreshing and stuff i think it had been on for 15 min whilst doing all that and then rebooted already several times or so...
- but i will try that once for all

but yeah i suppose it is conceivable that it is a lemon 🙁

thx guys

Have you tried connecting it as secondary in another system to see if it gets detected? Its been a lon while, but i remember that sometimes these drives that will have for some reason a hidden partition that prevents systems from de4tecting it and the only way to fix it was t use a linux program that can run off a bootable usb that would wipe the partition off and once back in Windows, the drive should start being detected. I'm asking my friend if he remembers the exact details. edit: he said Linux's disk utility is good enough, reformatting it as fat32 for some reason fixed it.

Alternatively, like others have said, could just be a lemon, sucks but always possible.

find your way to windows computer management/system tools/storage/disk management/
You should see your C drive there with several partitions.
You should also see the new ssd. You need to give it a drive letter and format it.

If it does not show up, the ssd is likely defective.

If you have a usb to sata adapter cable, try that.

On occasion, new parts do come failing; return the unit for a replacement.

yeah ok cool thx guys...

So yeah i put it in my external drive enclosure, and on to another computer - 2 in fact lap top and other desktop
but it just doesn't get recognized on any computer

in DM, i see c-drive with a cpl/few partitions, but not the new Samsung

to catch ppl up to speed it is being sent back to Newegg

i may just try for different drive like crucial which is what the computer was built with for the c drive and works fine
