Question New ssd causes black screen

So I bought a new ssd and simply plugged it in and all I get is a black screen, the pc powers on as all the fans start spinning. I've tried different data cables, different data ports, unplugging my other hdds and still the same thing no matter what. Could the ssd be faulty? I did drop it on the wooden floor when i opened the packaging....could've that caused damage?
