so i bout a ssd and have not tried to wipe my hard drive and power on so i can boot off of my ssd because i don't know if i need to call Microsoft and have them reactivate something. is there a easier way to do it?

Solution
Every time Windows is installed it needs to be activated. Whether activation will be as painless as just letting it automatically activate via the internet or not is going to depend on how significant and how often Microsoft has determined you are changing hardware in your PC.

This all depends on how you get the OS onto the SSD.

A clone operation? No reactivation needed.
A reinstall? Reactivate. Either online, or via the phone robot. Painless, takes about 3 minutes.
