Hello and thanks for the help.

I am looking at getting the 860 evo ssd 500g for my old pc with the ga-p55-usb3 motherboard and i5 760 https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-P55-USB3-rev-20#sp

I have a system with a msi h81m-e33
with a i5 4570 that a friend gave me ive just been lazy on formatting his drive and starting fresh since i would use my old case and psu.

Will the 860 work on the ga-p55-usb3 system and just run at 3gb/s or will i need to finally swap to the msi h81m-e33?

My 1tb hard drive is near death so i should probably format his drive and start over anyway, i have most things backed up now.

What is the best way to do this if so without a windows 10 install disk i upgraded from 7

Solution
to answer the question yes. if the motherboard has SATA the device (SSD) will run at what is available, if its SATA 3.0, 3.0 it will be / roughly half speed.

you can download an ISO from microsoft and use that to install windows again
