But I would want to make one thing clear that i7 would be a very good option if you are planning for a Overall multimedia system...
But if you want the PC mainly for gaming, then even I would suggest getting a E8X00/Q9XX0/ Phenom X3 or X4 build over an i7 build as the i7 doesn't offer significant gains over the above said CPUs.
With the money saved on the CPU and Mobo, get a more powerful graphics card...

thanks for all the info guys
i am going to stick with the intel quad and the xfx mobo and the 260 for video but the rest could change if i find something better for the same price or cheaper that offers the same thing

i seen so many reviews on that mobo and not many people have anything bad to say about it.. the odd dead board but nothing real bad

not saying your wrong just want to see if it was a combo of what they were doing or is it a older model or if they changed anything.. so on..

also from what I can see, most of the time dual nvidia cards don't scale as well as dual ATI cards.

Well its hard to find bad reviews as any company would not allow such reviews to be around the net for long as it would seriously impact the sales figures...But you could find info about the issues in various forums, which you can google and get...
Am not saying that those chips are bad...but I have seen many people saying about some incompatibility issues with memory, unstable when overclocked, ...And those chips are old so you may not able to get current fixes and updates that easy...

There's some reviews on newegg about the lack of overclock ability on this board.
I would go for a more popular model of the motherboard, though, since more people use it, more support it'll get and more bios updates (I think). Plus you don't have to figure out all the settings and stuff on your own.

I think it's more that the 4870 1gb is more expensive than the GTX 260 896mb which is putting him off getting a non-sli board.
but I think he'd save enough going with a CF board to pay the extra for a 4870, or dual 4770's.

The XFX 4870 1GB is actually $10 cheaper than GTX 260 at where I'm at right now...
Oh, well, there's not much difference in performance between those two anyway.
Although I did heard someone saying SLi is not as stable as CrossFire in the "How To Choose Component" sticky... did nVidia fix that problem?

just a little update i am going to change mobos to this EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW Motherboard
and the video to EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216
EVGA offers lifetime on there parts, so thats a + and from what i can fine the mobo is more stable

I would like to point out as others have mentioned this Q8200 is not ideal for gaming.
If you are looking to spend under $200 for a processor I strongly recommend you buy a E8400 its the same price as the Q8200 and its 3.0 GHz as opposed to the 2.33 GHz quad.
Most games do not utilize more than 2 cores and even the ones that do you will notice comparable performance from the dual core because of the higher clock speed.
Keep in mind that you can always upgrade to a faster quad core later on when more games support 4 cores and by then the prices should be much lower, but right now I can't justify buying the slower CPU just because it has more cores.
I did lots of research before I built my rig and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I hope you take my advice and get the best bang for your buck with a faster C2D.
I do plan on getting a second GTX 260 but I'm going to wait until prices drop a little bit and then I'm also going to overclock my E8400 to 3.6 (or higher if possible) to avoid a CPU bottleneck with the SLI setup.

i understand that a 2 cores are better for gaming but i only spend 4 to 10 hours a week on playing cod4. the rest of the time is spent video editing/ photo editing or programing
