hi i was trying to look up parts to build a low priced computer and need help picking, and maybe finding the best parts, for my computer. I am not really looking to overclock and it'll be for light to moderate gaming like cs, sc, wc3, d2, and sc2.

so here is a list of what i am thinking of getting, but i hope to make it somewhat cheap. also, i have not looked at much for the motherboard because i wasn't sure which ones are durable and easy to use.

optical

case - not sure if it is good, but it looks nice and since i won't overclock my computer, i think the number of fans is fine

hdd - i don't need much room, but this seems pretty good for the price

video card - like i said, it's for light gaming, but it's dx 10 capable

power supply - not sure if this is enough power

ram - not looking to overclock, but i want a computer fast

cpu - might be overkill for my purposes, but i want a core 2 duo

thanks

That CPU isn't bad, but it's a year old, so you might want to look at a newer core 2 duo.

As well, you might want to look into a newer graphics card, but that card IS very well priced after the rebate

as for a motherboard, I would reccomend looking at one with the p45 chipset

hi iewcoke

here's some advice...

ditch your HD-drive

for 20$ more you can double the storage

WD 6400AAKS sata 640gb hd

the 8400 GS is utter crap, please stay away from that garbage, if you're doing light gaming, this is the only card i suggest. well, either this or the 9600GT

ATI 4670
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=ATI+4670&x=0&y=0

that is the general link, you can pick which specific model you buy depending on warranty/512mb or 1gb memory.

PSU - Corsair 650 TX 79.99 after rebate

(i'm sure someone else can also recommend you another quality PSU in this forum)

CPU - E7300 @ 2.66ghz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115132

same relative price range, much better processor.

Ram - Mushkin 2x2gb DDR2800 4-4-4-12
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146726

this is the ram i have, cheap price for GREAT quality ram.

remember, look at the products i've suggested, it is MUCH MUCH better to spend a bit more on QUALITY parts that lasts forever than to have your system die because of crappy parts causing instability.

oh, i forgot mobo. this is probably one of the best P45 boards out right now. i figured you're doing light gaming so you won't need 2x PCI-e lanes

Gigabyte P45 UD3R $104.99 after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359

if you want the option to use dual video cards later as an upgrade, then you could get the UD3P instead

UD3P 116.99 after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358

honestly, if it was me, i would fork out the extra 12$ for the UD3P

heh, i only recommended the 650tx because he didn't list a budget and it is a fairly conservative price for a great PSU. the ram you recommended is great though. +1 there. and i figured he was willing to spend 119$ on the CPU, so i advised the E7300 instead. if he gave us a budget in the OP, then i would have gone with the E5200 as well.
