New to OC, would love some advice

So just recently I upgraded my CPU to an i7 8700k, and I know that with this gen of intel processors you have the ability to put it into "turbo mode" which essentially gives you access to the full 4.7 GHz capability of the CPU. Im running an asrock z370 killer mobo, and a cooler master hyper 212 evo on top of the CPU. Basically what im asking is it as easy as turning on a setting in the BIOS, and it my current cooler even capable of supporting the cpu when OC'd?

How well you can oc a i7-8700K depends on your luck in getting a good chip.

Note the "delidded" caveat above.
delidding, a $40 process gives a 8700K better heat dissipation capabilities that you likely do not have.

Yes, overclocking is as easy as increasing the all core multiplier in the bios.
Do so gradually and stress test.
Monitor your vcore(read with cpu-z) and your temperature(HWMONITOR or similar)
Ultimately the safe limit for overclocking comes from the voltage(vcore) that you and the chip can tolerate.
That tops out around 1.4v.

Keep a stress test to 85c.

There's a lot to unpack here...

Turbo Mode is enabled by default on almost all modern processors and motherboards. If you install the CPU and do NOTHING in the BIOS, your processor will "boost" up to 4.7 when it detects an "appropriate" load, like when you start a game (it's a bit more involved, but no need to go into all that now...)

The 212 is a great air cooler and will be fine even for light "overclocking"...overclocking in this case means "over and above" the 4.7 stock boost. Again, the turbo boost mode is sort of overclocking, but all of it handled automatically by the processor and motherboard. If you want to go higher than 4.7, that's when you go to the BIOS and start real overclocking.
 
I like erring on the side of caution. It's always best to get baseline performance/temp info before you even start OCing.

Run Prime95 for a few hours while also running Open Hardware Monitor to get an idea of the max temps that your CPU is hitting. If your temps are acceptable and your system stays stable after a few hours then yes, turn on turbo mode in BIOS and run the above test again.

Do not worry too much about this. The processor will throttle or slow down if it detects a dangerous temperature.
That is around 100c.

Again, find you limit and back off some. 8700K is already a beast at stock.
How much do you really need??

I think y'all may be missing the point...op thought that the 8700 "turbo boost" to 4.7 WAS overclocking the processor. I think he thought that he had to "overclock" to get the CPU to boost to 4.7...which is the stock turbo boost of the 8700k.
