Hey.

Using the Crucial Ballistax 3000 mhz Ram, and set it to 3600, is that okay, everything else auto? Was wondering about ram timings completely new to this, so I just went into BIOS and set it at the speed. The first time it crashed, the second time it did not, and I used intel burn test maximum and all is well. Was wondering why it crashed the first time, and if I needed to change these ram timings, and anyway what in the world these ram timings are? Using ryzen 5600x and gtx 1660 500 gb m2 and 1 tb ssd.

Thanks!

Solution
3000 speed ram has been binned and found to operate properly at that speed.
If it were capable of running faster, it would be sold as 3200 or 3600 speed.
Of course crucial could have made a mistake, but do not count on it.

To test ram,
Run memtest86 or memtest86+
They boot from a usb stick and do not use windows.
You can download them here:
If you can run a full pass with NO errors, your ram should be ok.

Running several more passes will sometimes uncover an issue, but it takes more time.
Probably not worth it unless you really suspect a ram issue.

As another consideration.... ryzen is picky about ram.
What is the make/model of your motherboard?

The web site will have a ram supported QVL list of the kits that have been tested.
I would be most surprised if a motherboard supporting a 5600x could not support 3600 speed. There is a lower speed supported at which the motherboard will boot.
But there will be higher speeds available through ram overclocking

In any case, there may be a bios update that improves ram compatibility.

Would Intel Burn test be good?

I just want me ram faster, obviously I'd see some improvement from 3000 to 3600, my motherboard does support 3600 and it is working fine on 3600 speed. I get more FPS, was just wondering if it was stable. Have everything on auto basically, just changed ram speed.
