Newbie Needs Help Upgrading Rig

okey so I want to upgrade my rig as my current rig does not seem to want to run arma 3 on any graphics settings!! I cant seem to get my fps any higher then 20-25fps on any graphics setting si think its time to make some changes

Ram ~ 16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
Cooler ~ Corsair H80i
Memory ~ 1TB Sata III Hard Drive
OS ~ Windows 8.1

upgrading your cpu and motherboard will do the job hdd 7970 is a good card for playing at high settings so get the i5 4690k and the z97 board after that if u still think that u are not getting enough fps then get a r9 290x or gtx 780....and dont get the reference model of the card as suggested they have low clock speeds and are usually hotter....

See my post on your other thread. Your current system should get much higher frame rates than what you currently have, so there is a problem that is software/hardware related.

maybe a i5 4690k. sorry but the 7970 is a r9 280 and thats one of the best gpus out.

yeah thats what im thinking a r9 280x should be pushing higher frames. however do that intel upgrade. it will provide much better performance than a.. 6200.

what i think its the cpu wich is bottlenecking the card and yes the drivers a loose connection virus also may be the problem....with a 7970 he should get at least 40+ fps in games at high to ultra settings...

yeah sorry about that. the i got them mixed up i once thought the 7970 was a r9 280 and a r9 280x was 7970ghz.

Upgrading to an i5 would give him maybe 5 fps more.

the i5 is way more powerful in newer games and leaves him a upgrade path for when HT is utilized in games. (dx12 supports some kind of gpu hyperthreading or maybe its cpu.)

yes i5 yes more powerfull that his current processor and its always best for games but i5 doesn't have hyperthreading only i3 and i7 have hyperthreading and dx 12 is not yet released....

Get a i5 with a z97, that takes up 300 pounds, 700 left for 780ti or 780 and money left for new psu maybe

the i7 the hyperthreading will be utilized. the 1000w for the crossfire. the r9 280x for crossfire. the z97 for overclocking and upgradability. the ssd for speed.

What 7970 card do you have? Ideally you want the two cards to have the same clock speed if you are crossfiring them.

the cards will underclock to the slower one. then they can both be overclocked.

i agree but 2x250w= 500w +84(cpu) and everything +(100)= 684w approximetly plus he could overclock which could add up another 20-100w depending on what he overclocks(gpu/cpu) which is really close to a 750w limits.

the r9 280x is a 7970 just rebranded and slightly overclocked so it probably will down clock.
