I just bought a KT7a Raid Mobo with a (1 GHz athelon)and love it so far. I purchased some PC133 Memory (256 Mb) and the guy said it was "the good stuff". But I can't get my mobo to post at the standard speed of 1 GHz (7.5 multipier) and 133 MHz FSB?
What am I doing wrong? Is my memory no good? (I don't doubt this, the guy I bought it from is a bit shady).

Ideas? Help?

is the chip a "c" or a "b" thunderbird?

can you boot at 10x100 ? if this is the case, then it's a "b", which is ok b/c all you have to do is unlock the chip and then you can run it at 7.5x133

Jojo: Ya, I was wondering about that. I didn't unlock the chip. So if I unlock it I will be able to run at 133 MHz? Weird, you would think the chip would run on its own at 133 MHz. This isn't even overclocking, is it? Was this chip designed to run at 133 Mhz or am I going to do some damage?(I'll run it at 7.5 X 133 Mhz.) The chip will still be running at 1 GHz so it doesn't seem to me I will harm anything. Is that right? Thanks for your help Jojo.

what jojo is saying is that if you have a B series Athlon, stock is 100Mhz FSB.

If you have a C series Athlon, stock is 133Mhz FSB.

Clarify which chip you have first, that will make the other questions cake to answer.

If you do not know how to tell a B from a C, just say so, there are a couple of ways to check.

well, if it is a c chip, you shouldn't have to unlock it to get it to 133.
if it is a b chip, then u will have to unlock the multiplier so you can run 133 x 7.5

I run my B at 133 x 7.0 and it's been going fin efor a few months now (orginally an 8.0 x 100)

AMDChuck: Please, let me know how to tell if I have a b or a c chip. I'm pretty sure I have a b (and it is locked right now). I can only get the computer to post at the 10 X 100 speed. No other speed I have tried seems to work. Also, just wondering how much I will be overheating or overpushing the 1 GHz b chip if I run it at 7.5 X 133?

Cuz, the computer belongs to my dad, and if I blow something up he is going to be seriously mad.

Thanks

I have a 1.2GHz Athlon and suspect it is a 100MHz, but how do I confirm what FSB the TBird is. I am very daft as far as this is concerned. I just bought my system on Friday last week. Can one detect this with software?
