I am planning on building a pc this summer. Would it be worthwhile to hold out for a 64 bit processor or is there going to be a huge lag before software takes advantage of it? I mostly only use audio editing software and play games. thanks

There is going to be a bit of a lag for 64 bit software. Currently, m$ is still working on an operating system for it (I don't know where it is in terms of production [slightly before the beta stage?]). That, and I know there is a counter strike 64 bit server in the works, and UT2k3 has a 64 bit patch. That is all that I have heard of so far. I'd wait till the fall/winter, and see what's out there before buying the athlon 64.

Agreed,

In addition to that, you may find that it will be worth waiting for the high end cpu's availible now, they should start dropping soon as the date of release approaches. So you may find instead of waiting for high priced 64 but os's and software, to jump on a practical one until the bugs are out.

It seems that every time I reboot my wallet gets smaller. I append: No longer interested in speed, just the mere idea that everything should perform at its full potential.
