I just recieved a duron 650, an abit KT7, and a cooler master heatsink+fan. I ordered all of this from the same outfit and had the intention of overclocking the 650. Well cpu, heatsink and fan all came assembled on the mobo. I need to take the heatsink and fan off to close the L7 bridges right. So my question is if they already put the heat compound stuff on the chip and mounted the heatsink on it will I damage the cpu by taking the heatsink off of it?

You should not damage the CPU if you are careful. I have take the heatsink on and off at least ten times with four different heatsink with no damage, yet! As for the heatsink compound, the CoolerMaster Heatsink use a thermal pad, and upon removal of the heatsink the thermal pad will need to be cleaned off completely of both the heatsink and CPU. None should be left! The bridges you need to close are the L1 bridges, not the L7 bridges. Get some heatsink compound, or Arctic Silver compound, and apply a small amount to the CPU Core only and reinstall the heatsink.
