(newbuilt computer) USB nor HDMI/DVI will work

I've built my own computer today and this is the first time I've built a computer. The computer will start but none of my USB products will work and neither will HDMI nor DVI-cables. I bought new parts for my computer because the display would not work, and I made sure that it was something wrong with the computer by trying the same HDMI and screen for my PS3, and there was no problem there. I just don't know what to do now to fix the inputs. (Mobo: z170-D. GPU: MSI gtx 1060. CPU: I5-6600K. Ram 8GB. Power:750W.)

Does it post? If the mobo has onboard video did you plug the monitor into the gtx HDMI?

Unfortunately I'm Swedish and isn't that good at english (ironic that I'm posting on a UK page). I first plugged in the HDMI into the GTX and then I tried with the DVI-cable on the gtx, none worked. I then tried to plug in the DVI into the motherboard, same outcome. Have not tried the HDMI to the mobo yet though. (Hope this is what you asked for)

Remove the GTX then see if any of the onboard video ports work. On some mobos if you install a separate videocard it'll disable the onboard

If the onboard video works there's a prob with that GTX. You may have missed connecting a cable or something

What manufacturer model is that? Did you mean Asus Z170-Deluxe ?

Ok did you connect the ATX 12v to the header on the mobo?? Sometimes people forget to connect this.

It looks like the mobo supports that CPU without a BIOS update. So thats not the prob

Connected the MB-cable and the CUP-cable to the Mobo. Also connected to the GTX but it is a 6+2

You're using DDR4 ram right?? What slot is the 8 GB in?? Looks like it should be in A2 if its 1 8 GB stick

If you've got 2x4 GB sticks, the sticks should be in A2 and B2. Is the LED on the mobo lit up?? This means power is going to it

It's one stick on the second slot from the CPU, don't know the name of the slot thought, and it's DDR4. The mobo is lit, the CPU fan is working, but not the GPU:s fans, well sometimes it does so I guess they're only on when needed

I've not connected a speaker, but I do have one from my old build, will put it in now and see

Could be the video card, turn it off then make sure its installed property. Press down on it so you hear it click into the slot

Will try, but that still won't explain why it wont work with the mobo either. Did I have the ram in the right spot? (it is installed properly as far as I can tell)

According to the manual on the ASUS site if it's one stick it should be in A2. If you've got 2 sticks you put them in A2 and B2.

I don't know the names of the slots but I only got one stick and it's in the second slot from the CPU

You did put the standoffs in, before you installed the mobo right?

If you didnt the mobo will short on the case

This maybe the reason why the onboard video doesnt work

The ram slots from the left (the slot closest to the CPU), the first is A1, A2, B1 B2

They were already in from the last mobo. And thank you for the info.
