Newegg or Amazon?

I have a few questions/concerns between Amazon and Newegg. The reviews on Newegg on most of the X99 motherboards are stating the board is junk. There are good ones but something tells me their "reviews" are not legitimate. Opposed to Amazon, the reviews for the motherboard are amazing. There are barely any complaints. Which place should I ought to purchase from, or even both? I just find Newegg a "I-blame-this-company-because-of-my-lack-of-knowledge website". I have ordered from them in the past and have t had any problems. I recently purchased a 970 from Amazon and feel like I should have went to Newegg. I am really torn between what is BS and what is the truth about computer products. Which one is better for taking advice? Where do you guys buy parts? Should I ignore (moderately) the reviews on the sites?

Thanks in advance for putting your two cents in :)

Solution
"reviews" at either are crap. Ignore.
"I-blame-this-company-because-of-my-lack-of-knowledge website"
or
"I-blame-this-company-because-of-my-lack-of-knowledge of shipping website"

Does that particular board, from reviews at tech sites, do what you want? If so, then buy it from whichever place is cheaper.

Check all the sites you can about a product. Amazon gives you email reminders to review something, so more people tend to. Most people don't write a review for something that just "works". If something breaks, however, then THOSE are the people that are going to write a review. What I always look for is a trend. Do you see multiple reports of the same SPECIFIC issue? BSOD after a period of time? Overheating? Or is it a jumble of issues where most can be attributed to bad builds?

Every product is going to have a bad egg every now and then. I find with a lot of quality computer parts, most negative reviews are from bad builds, or simply not getting the boost in performance they were expecting. If you don't find a trend in the issues, then it's just the loud minority making their voices heard.

Very good info here. Solid advice.

It is the Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard. On Newegg it has a bunch of issues. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132506

There are a few here and there. I feel as if they are bad builds. The board sometimes doesn't read all the drives properly or have some dumb software issue. There isnt really anything to worry about. However, on Amazon the board is rated very high. There isn't very many issues. On Newegg, some people rated the board down just because of DOA. That happens sometimes with any PC related component.

Over the past few years I have been building, I have been trying to ignore reviews but sometimes feel like it is essential with newer products. Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind.

You can read them. But at sites like Amazon and Newegg, a LOT of the bottom starred reviews have nothing to do with the product. Bad shipping, I ordered the wrong one, it's not the right shade of blue....

And some of the 5 stars are simply paid shills.

Alright. So just to summarize, just ignore the reviews or ignore the fake ones? I read all of these links and there tend to be some of those types of reviews where it only has a few words and its done.

You can read them. Just realize that some of them are completely wrong/misleading.

Just because something gets 5 1 star ratings out of 25 does not automatically mean it is a bad product.

For instance, 2 1 star ratings for some under cabinet LED lights:
"Ordered it, it arrived, was for UK market, cant plug it in or use it. Hopefully this is just a misshipment, I still want it..."
"Unit would not operate, it contained the incorrect power supply for the US voltage. I can't recommend this product."

Nothing to do with the actual operation, they just got shipped the wrong thing.

However, if 4 of those 1 star ratings are because: "I plugged it in and 3 seconds later it blew up"...there may be an issue.

I've ordered from amazon and newegg both. Being a prime member at amazon might make a difference but they're excellent about handling returns and stuff. Never give me any issue and fast turn around. Newegg's not bad, haven't had to return as much from them because I buy more often from amazon (not just pc related things).

I agree, many people give bad reviews and you read their complaint and they're clueless. The poor reviews often have nothing to do with it. I've also seen good reviews but with problems mentioned so go figure. You do have to take reviews with a grain of salt, like mentioned before usually only the bad reviews get made. You'll see 4 out of 5 poor reviews, but there may be 500 other people perfectly happy who didn't write a review.

'' You do have to take reviews with a grain of salt, '' -- so true

ya, some if you read between the lines kinda looks like end user faults or lack of knowledge on the product

look at all the intel boards reviews that claim ''bent pins '' maybe I'm dang lucky but between me and my friends I never see it out of the box . but I do know its easy to do if you get too careless setting the intel chip in its socket and cranking down the latch .

so is it all them intel boards get shipped with bent pins or the reviewer goofed it himself and now blames the manufacture ?? I'm leaning towards the end user [opinion]

the more experience you get the more you can weed out suspect reviews

Alright. Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. Wish I could mark all you guys as solutions but unfortunately, I cannot. 😀 Anyway, I wont take reviews with my life. Haha. I do see a lot of user error reviews but tend to be skeptical either way. So, again, thanks for all the advice everyone. Thumbs up to all! Peace
