Hey guys,

When I visit the US I'm going to be buying an R9 290 from newegg, my question is if the price displayed is $400 will I pay this or will it add tax on at the end? I remember the last time I went to the US many shops didn't include tax on the price tag and was wondering if this was the case with newegg.

I will be visiting florida and was wondering if it isn't included if anyone knew what % would be added?

Internet sales taxes, for the most part, are levied by the states on the "honor system". In otherwords, you owe the state in which you received the goods the tax but there is really no way to follow your purchases. You will likely be charged for customs duties when you return to your country of origin though.

Newegg only charges tax in California, New Jersey and I think Tennessee because they have warehouses in those states. Otherwise, usually no sales tax. That being said, displayed prices almost never include taxes, that's the surprise at checkout.

I just entered a random ZIP code from florida and it didn't add any tax, just delivery charge. Am I correct in thinking this will be the final amount since I've now entered a zip code? And would this be the same across the whole of Florida?

Should be, if they don't add in taxes, then that is the price. They don't have any way to try to charge you for it later.

After entering the ZIP code, if no tax is added, then correct, no tax charged online there. (Note: Were you to go into a shop to get the same item, there would be sales tax)

As for customs, I'm an not familiar with their rules.

Great, I was going to buy it online anyway :) I just wanted to check that it wouldn't suddenly rise in price is all!
