hI FOLKS,

I´m a new buyer on newegg and i want to know if they ship packages to P.O.Boxes. I tried to contact then but i couldn´t do so.

Thanks!

Only places that use the US Postal Service for shipping can ship to a PO (Post Office) box. FedEx/UPS/DHL don't have access to PO boxes, so they need a physical address.

If newegg can ship via USPS, then it should be able to ship to PO box.

Mike.

Greetings TomsHardware Forum members and Newegg patrons!

As you may know, Newegg takes Fraud prevention very seriously. In regards to this question, CHEEZball is right--due to fraud prevention purposes, we do have to ship to an actual “physical address.”

We humbly apologize, Alex, if this causes any inconvenience for you, but we feel that this precautionary measure is necessary to safeguard all of our customers when placing an order with us.

You MAY, however, use the P.O. Box as your billing address if you like. Just remember that if your billing and shipping addresses are different, the shipping address will be verified with the customer’s card issuing bank prior to us releasing the order. You may do this by contacting the bank that issued your credit card (the 800-number on the back of the CC) to have your shipping address listed as an alternate address in their “memo field.”

Alex, feel free to PM us directly if you’d like us to assist in your situation.

Thanks again for taking the time to post and have an eggcellent day! :)

Hi,

Personally, I don't understand how using a PO Box would contribute to fraud, because it is a locked box that the USPS requires a government issued ID for, more than some physical address like an abandoned house, etc. that could be used by anyone.

My problem is that UPS and DHL are not necessarily as secure to me as a PO Box which is locked until I go to it, and can bring a card to the counter to sign for items at a time convenient for me instead of waiting a whole day waiting for UPS/DHL to arrive. Many times, UPS/DHL will leave items out in the open in desert heat, freezing weather, snow, or rain, for anyone walking by to pick up until the occupant comes home from work or becomes aware there was a delivery, or that the item was stolen (which is much more likely than with a P.O. Box).

Because it appears that Newegg will never change their policy to not ship to a P.O. Box even though it uses USPS (which has options for delivery confirmation, signatures, and to check IDs of the recipient), is there at least some option to request that UPS/DHL/USPS:

1. Get a signature and check the ID of the person to whom they are delivering to?

2. Hold the item at the nearest UPS/DHL/USPS distribution center or office for pickup, requiring that an ID be shown?

If fraud is truly of concern, and there is any concern for the customer actually receiving the items they pay for, I would think these options would be taken into account. I've heard good things about Newegg, but this doesn't seem like one of them. I've sent email and chatted online with the specialist at the newegg website, but get the programmed answer that newegg has its policy, with not even as much explanation as user, "Newegg_Support" provided in his reply here, and never any other option or possible consideration of forwarding any request to improve the security of customers' purchases.

Personally, I have had items stolen or "lost" when UPS/Fedex/DHL claimed to have made a delivery. This is a situation I would like to avoid, and it should enhance the confidence customers can have in their purchases if it is addressed.
