Hi there. I just received my long-awaited custom-built editing computer yesterday. It was assembled to my specs by a local computer store. I wanted to fire it up right then but I had things to do so I exercised a little discipline and waited until today. About 30 minutes ago I turned the thing on for the first time. It powered up, the fans were spinning, the RGB wackiness lit up, it looked good to go.
So I connected it to my monitor via HDMI and nothing shows up. It seems there's no signal reaching the monitor as it starts to go into standby mode. I've already tested the cable and the monitor by hooking up a different device. They're fine.
I don't even know if I'm supposed to boot it somehow or if it's supposed to boot when I press the start/reset button. I know a little about computers (I should, I researched this thing long enough!) but I've never built one and never had one built for me. They didn't tell me anything when I picked it up but I didn't ask them anything either. I figured it'd be self-explanatory.
I have the Windows 10 Professional (OEM) DVD and I'd love to just put that in and see what the computer makes of it. Only one problem—I don't have a CD/DVD drive. I never thought I'd need one! In fact, when the dude at the store gave me the Windows DVD I told him I had no optical drive and he reminded me that they were doing the installation so it's no problem.
But now (the embarrassing part) I'm thinking maybe I need to run the Windows disc? If so, I'm pretty cranky at the employee who told me I didn't need one. But if not, how in the world am I supposed to start my new computer ?
Thank you all for any help you can offer.
