So I have installed everything but after it was finished I would turn psu and turn pc on but nothing happened. I looked at some other posts and they said how getting thermal compound on your motherboard can affect it. I had a little line of it run on in the motherboard and was wondering if that is why it wont start?

Solution

you can live without the reset switch. http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/tutorial-suspect-a-dead-psu-how-to-be-sure.55506/ that tutorial will allow you to properly diagnose your psu.
most modern thermal paste is non-conductive. theoretically you can empty an entire tube all over your motherboard without any problems. what thermal paste did you use?
is there any life at all in your pc? lights or fans even for just a second.

I used the thermal compound that came with the hyper 212 evo fan cooler and there is no power to my computer at all i dont think. The motherboard led doesnt turn on or fans

that thermal paste is non-conductive. if there's no life at all it's probably a dead psu. do you or an acquaintance have one that you could test with?

I do not I could buy one of ebay though, I just feel like it isnt a dead psu and would defintely hope not. I am using a nzxt s340 case and I have looked up many tutorials and they talk about a reset sw cord but I don't have one or couldn't in my case. Could this be a problem for not starting?
