I've just reinstalled Windows 7 and Chrome, the latter from a freshly downloaded installation file. I tried it out by going to a few sites I regularly visit, including some that require a log in. A few sites were blocked by Chrome saying that it's not safe. I opted to proceed anyway with one of the blocked pages and reached the login page (but did not log in).
Does this mean that the browser detected something suspicious? Or does it simply mean that the site's security certificate is not quite up to par? Here's the message:

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from [login URL] (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
This server could not prove that it is [login URL] its security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.
Proceed to [login URL] (unsafe)
