Question Newly installed Chrome blocks some log in pages

I've just reinstalled Windows 7 and Chrome, the latter from a freshly downloaded installation file. I tried it out by going to a few sites I regularly visit, including some that require a log in. A few sites were blocked by Chrome saying that it's not safe. I opted to proceed anyway with one of the blocked pages and reached the login page (but did not log in).

Does this mean that the browser detected something suspicious? Or does it simply mean that the site's security certificate is not quite up to par? Here's the message:

NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
