Just installed my new gigabyte gtx 960 g1 4gb, Wednesday nite. Thursady night I bought and played Tom clancys the division. I set the the game setting to auto, and got right at 59 to 60 fps.

I have a older hd monitor thats 1680 x 1050, so not even 1080p. Game will play fine for about 3 to 5 mins, then the screen will go black! This is with the 960 g1 set to Gaming or OC, and my 6600k not OC'ed at all.

Hitting the esc button 1 or 2 x, brings the video back! Also mine has Rev 1, and Rev 1.1 on the box. As well, as instead of a 8 & 6 pin power connector as pictured on Gigabytes webpage, mine has two 6 pin power connecters! Any ideas? Is this game too kuch for my 960 gc? Doubt it matters but Im using a hdmi to dvi cable hdmi out from 960 to dvi into monitor, that has neverhad any issues before. Tia...

Solution

If monitor is set to turn off it would do so when NOT gaming as well. Plus, it only does so after NOT getting any inputs like keyboard or mouse so that's pretty unlikely.

Other:
It does feel like a connection issue though since the game is apparently still running. So the GPU hasn't overheated and crashed the card. That also should mean it's not a power issue.
Hey,

1) The game isn't "too much" in the sense of causing the card to go wonky. The GPU will simply work as hard as it can, and if it gets hot then if the fans aren't enough it will throttle down.

2) *Try using a straight DVI cable to troubleshoot.

3) Other: try other games and benchmarks as well (Unigine valley, 3DMark series etc). Maybe try Furmark because that runs a card hotter than usual.

No thats not it, i keep sleep and hibernate Off.

I'll hookup a dvi to dvi cable, and see if that maybe cures it... fingers crossed

I'll also look into downloading a free benchmark software. Glad to hear the game isnt to much for the card though...

Thanks, I kinda thought it maybe the hdmi connection at the 960. As the way the slot port on the rear of my nzxt 410 phantom case is, the 960's hdmi output sits right near the edge of the cutout. Where it kept the hdmi cable, from being Fully Seated!

Swapped to a dvi to dvi cable, and the issue (black screen) hasnt comeback, in nearly 45 minutes of Gameplay! I also in Windows 10, select to Never turn off monitor.

Yippy...

Update:Turns out, I re:enabled the windows turn monitor off to 5 mins. After 5 mins, my monitor went black again!!! Odd..

Also switched back to hdmi/dvi cable, and turned the monitor off setting to monitor Never off! Somehow leaving the monitor to always on Fixed my issue. It still doesnt make sense though...

Setting Windows, to keep the monitor to ON, Fixed my issue... Oddly enough!

Just FYI, but most people choose closer to 20 minutes for the monitor turn-off but I guess it's a moot point for you right now.

So to be clear:
1) DVI and HDMI work the same

2) Monitor turns off (when set to do so) after set timeout regardless of whether you are pressing buttons?

*To me that suggests it's a Windows software issue. The monitor isn't defective if it will properly receive the turn-off command from your PC. Thus, it means the computer isn't properly resetting the time when you press buttons.

Weird. I've never seen this happen.

Update:
I'm not 100% certain how the turn-off command works. It might be interesting to try a DIFFERENT monitor. (it occurred to me that the monitor itself might be counting down unless told NOT to do so, thus if the MONITOR was defective perhaps it won't understand the RESET command for its internal timer).

So... if possible maybe try another monitor?

Yeah, its Odd...

As Ive never experienced this with this monitor in the past. Its a 9 yr old gateway 21.5 inch 1680 x 1050 resolution...

Still functions and works great... Im not sure if its a videocard driver issue, or what...

I'll try it out again later. I know disabling windows turning it off after a certain amout of time, cured the issue.

Never had the issue woth my 2 past pc's. Last one was a win 7, that got the win 10 upgrade. It worked fine. But, didnt have a graphics card in it though....

The Upgrade Bug, bit me... Plus I'm a led freak... I have a Gigabyte GTX 970 4gb Extreme OC Edition, Graphics Card in route by Friday... Should get a handful more FPS, with this baby!
