so im wondering if i should now buy my self a gtx 980/980ti or wait for the new gtx series (i have the r9 270x right now)
if any one can tell me around what time it will release it would be grate
Actually, 980Ti's are still the best safe option to go! However, if you keep waiting forever, you will eventually buy nothing, so go with what you feel is gonna do the job!
Might be worth the wait, but nobody ever knows for sure.
I personally am waiting (regardless of the fact im broke), on my 760.
Pascal is set to release late 2016, so you have about another year of waiting, which the 270x should handle.
Both cards are good, but I would personally wait, even if the new cards aren't as impressive as rumoured, the cards you want now will be lower in price hopefully.

980ti is complete overkill for 1080, and while it does acceptable at 4k, it doesn't do perfect and will only get worse, and future cards will be more 4k friendly.
1440p? Possible, still bit overkill, but will last ages!!!
I would wait because the current Gen Maxwell (980/980Ti) don't do true asynchronous computer. Async compute is a pretty big directx 12/Vulcan feature that improves performance a lot when implemented right.
The next gen could be quite a big step up when it comes to supporting all directx 12 features.
