To all Wizards

Main Issue: nForce2 SPP chipset drivers not recognized by Windows XP
Home Edition

Following is my system configuration:

NF7-S V2 motherboard
Athlon XP 2800 processor, 333 front bus, not overclocked
Bios number 23 (have used 20 and 21 with same results)
Current nForce driver version 3.13, have used nforce driver that came
with mb disk, same results
Windows XP Home Edition, all updates installed. Windows was installed
from a clean setup.
ATA serial raid version 4.2.47, set up as a raid 0
Hard drives, Seagate Barracuda 7200 80 gig.
Memory, two Siemens 512 Meg DDR-SDRAM PC-3200, running at 400 MHZ. Have
tried 333 MHZ, and other ram sticks with same result.
Memory modules set up in slots 2 and 3, upon boot "Dual DDR" message
displayed.
Radeon 9600XT AGP video card, latest drivers.
On board audio and LAN enabled, IEEE disabled.

Problem:

My Computer - System - Hardware - Device Manager- System Devices

Basic display for computer hardware shows no conflicts, disabled
devices, or other Windows warning icons.

The following listed items have "No Drivers installed for this device"
displayed when they are first selected in the "General" display box for each
device:
When I advance to the "Drivers Tab" display box, Windows lists nVida
drivers as being installed. All driver versions dates are 4/9/2003.

nVidia nForce2 PCI System Management
nVidia nForce2 Memory Controller (4 of these are listed)
nVidia nForce 2 Ultra 400 Memory Controller

When clicking on all other nForce devices, such as AGP devices, Windows
"General" display box says that drivers have been installed.

Troubleshooting efforts to date:

Two Clean installs of Windows. All Windows updates are installed. Have
tried three different BIOS versions. Have tried two different nForce
unified driver versions. I have uninstalled the nForce drivers via the
Control Panel Remove Programs tab before installing new unified drivers. I
have uninstalled each of the above items utilizing the Device manager, then
rebooted the computer and let the system find the new device and let Windows
install the driver. I have used the option in the BIOS of "Force Update
ESCD".

Any suggestions on this problem are greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance

Dave

That's normal. Same on my XP Home system (NF7-S ver. 2.0). If you look
at the Driver tab, it shows Driver Provider: NVIDIA, date and version,
but Driver Details says "no driver files required or loaded for this
device", emphasis on "not required". As long as the devices are
correctly identified, it appears that's all that is needed.

That's normal, same thing here on XP Pro.

I have XP Pro and an NF7-S ver. 2 and it shows five nVidia nForce2 Memory
Controllers but none of them say nVidia nForce 2 Ultra 400 Memory
Controller. Wonder why the Utra controller is not listed on mine?

Mine says Ultra 400 just like the original poster...Are you running your
memory dual channel?

I switched my memory sticks to slots 2 and 3 so they are now running in dual
channel according to the boot up screen. But I still have the five nVidia
nForce2 Memory Controllers listed. None of them say Ultra 400 Memory
controller.
The general tab shows no driver installed like yours. But if I click on the
driver tab it shows Nvidia, 8/26/02, version 2.7.5.0. If I click on driver
details, it shows that no drivers have been installed or needed for this
device. Which one of the memory controllers on yours shows up as the Ultra
400?

In device manager, the memory controllers (5) are listed as "NVIDIA
nForce2 Memory Controller". That is also normal.

I think this is a specific driver thing. I have seen it listed that way before,
but it has changed with different drivers.

Yes I have seen it both ways with different drivers. I don't think they would
have different drivers for having dual memory.

update your nforce drivers to the latest from nvidia ... I show the
"ultra400" version in device mgr ... I'm sure it appeared after updating
nforce drivers to v.3.13... the properties for my "ultra400 memory
controller", says I have v.3.38 driver.

cheers
