I hear you there. I've been waiting to do a build since last spring, so not as long, but still waiting. First I waited through for Phenom, and that turned out to be a bust, along with the chipset which used a SB600 southbridge instead of a SB700 southbridge. So I decided to wait another month and build an Intel based machine using the X48 chipset and one of the new chips, but Intel has put those on hold. So now I'm still waiting. I don't want to build something and find it outdated within the month. I could do a cheap build with an AMD 5000+ BE, but that's old tech, or a Q6600, but again, that's a year and a half old tech. So I wait. Glad I'm patient, but one of these days, patience is going to wear a bit too thin.

:) I hear ya Sailer...boy do I hear ya.

I mean I know you can never have a system that is on the edge for long, but Im hoping that I make it last longer than a couple of weeks 😛

With that much money (8K), wouldn't you be better off building a very respectable system for just over 2,500 every two years. Two years from now a system that costs ~ $ 2,500 will probably be as capable if not faster then one today for $ 8,000. Then you would have six years of decent system. Either that, or you are made of money... Can I have some :kaola:

Thanks for replies but kind of going off topic. I see most people said the X38 is better to get. So now i have a choice from Asus Maximus Extreme or Asus Maximus Formula?

Which should i get? I want the best for gaming.

There was a forum on this very subject following Tom's review of both X38 DDR2 boards and then X38 DDR3 boards. It looks like the percentage gain in speed is minute. That said, more ram is better then less ram and you could use the savings from not buying DDR3 ram to get more DDR2 ram. Keep in mind that 32 bit OS's have ~3.2 gig limitations.

Hmm... we are getting a little off topic...

At the moment, I'd prefer a X38 board over a 780i, with lots of DDR2 ram. I think DDR3 will get better in time, and cheaper, but at the moment, it just doesn't look that promising. And yes, a 64 bit OS by all means. I think the time for a 32 bit OS has come and gone.
