Not exactly sure where best to post this question so I'll start with Networking.

I have been tasked with replacing two, older (15+ years), industrial panel mount PCs with a modern equivalent.

All customer specs and requirements can be met except one.

They have an older 10Base2 Coax network in place and do not want to or cannot change it at this time.

One of their specific requirements is a NIC in the PC with a 10Base2 BNC connection and I have found no manufacturer which still produces this type interface. The only manufacturer I can find that even makes any type converter is Black Box.

Years ago they were produced by 3Com, Cisco and numerous others but 10Base2 has been obsolete for 20 years.

Anyone know of any company who still makes a NIC that supports this type connection? Or, a RJ45 to BNC 100BaseT to 10Base2 converter?

Thanks!

Most people on this forum have likely never even seen those being used. We tossed pallets full of switches and routers into dumpsters that had those type of connections.

I suspect your best bet is going to be the converter you found from black box. Black box tends to be a good place to find strange converters even though in most cases they are just are just a reseller.

You could likely find old cards on ebay but most modern pc do not have the proper slots. Most used ISA connectors. Even worse where would you get a driver for the device that would work in current operating systems.

10 meg at half duplex is almost unthinkable. Maybe they should upgrade to token ring because it runs at 16m :)
