I have the Nighthawk x6 ac3200 with a 1gb internet service. For the past couple days now when i get on my computer in the morning, my speeds are around 100mbps, so i restart my router and modem (which is a brand new cm1200) and it goes back to the normal speeds i get. I am hard lines with catfe, ive had the router for a few years now and idk if my router is over heating or if its going bad or something along those lines. Anyone seen this before and got there opinion on what may be the cause?

It might be bad but it is far more likely it is a bad cable.

I would try a different lan port on the router just in case that port is bad. Note it could be the cable between the modem and the router also. I am not sure if you can tell the speed by looking at lights or if there is menu in the router that will show the speed.

Your pc will show the speed on the status page for the ethernet port.

A ethernet cable is going to be much cheaper to try first if nothing else you then have a spare cable.

It is fairly common for ethernet cables to go bad. Can be the metal comes just slightly loose inside the one of the plugs and makes less contact. Make sure you buy quality ethernet cables. You want pure copper wire with wire size 22-24. Those flat cables you see sold have wires much too small meet the standards to be a actual ethernet cable. They also tend to have many more failures that real ethernet cables. Be sure the vendor clearly states it is copper cable and the wire size buy from another vendor if you can not find it.
