Nintendo doing Nintendo things...nothing new. They know damn well that they can get away with these things which is why they keep doing this sort of stuff. I wouldn't care about them at all if it wasn't for Pokémon which is their only product that I truly love.

This sort of anti-competitive, standards-violating, anti-consumer behaviour should be illegal, with fines in the double-digit percentage of overall company revenue.

(And jail time for everybody in the management layer who approved the decision... one can dream, right?)

I can see both sides of the line here.... remember when the 1st switch came out and people's consoles were getting bricked because of 3rd party docks?

Also... I can see the USB-C port being restricted due to OTG extended storage and such.

But Nintendo is basically Bricking consoles anyway, so who knows?

HUnfortunately, most users does not care and keep buying Switch and Nintendo games🤔😒
They're just too addicted to buying new consoles that they don't care about the fact that they are encouraging Nintendo to screw us over more

Cool another reason for me to not buy the brick 2, can't customize it, can't personalize it, can't add homebrew it'll brick your system, no games I want to play on it, no physical games, Performance on it is horrendous when emulating, and its all overpriced games wise just for you to not really own your games.

This is why USB-C get though minimal the negative press it does. Nobody is forced to adhere to USB-C specs.

I'm glad I got rid of my Switch 1 for the Legion Go when it came out. At least there thanks to GOG I own my games and they won't just disappear.

Nintendo has always been an odd company, but they really jumped into the anti consumer deep end recently. A lot of the anti piracy stuff is fine but....restricting third party add ons with no warning sucks. You should be able to use other things with this system. No reason but greed to not allow it.
The bean counters pushed the gamers out of leadership at Nintendo and took over. It's no longer about a passion for making games, but a passion for making money off of stale nostalgia.

Dont forget to legally emulate all of the Nintendo games you already bought!

AFAIK this break EU regulation laws that forced apple to get USBC.

Laws are focused on reverse compatibility and reduction of e waste.

If nintendo found a loophole its temporary and expect a class action

They are only breaking spec. Regular USB-C cables and chargers work, therefore they are on a technicality compliant. The regulation did not mandate that it has to support standard combo functionality. If it had, any phone not using USB-C PD (+PPS) like those getting over 100w rapid charging would be in violation.

It's unethical and scummy but not illegal, as of now.
