A very simple fix. Don't implement the internet. It's not needed.

I agree. Problem is, ordinary people see this as "progress". And in a sense, you could understand their point. When we have new generations that are so reliant on their phones digital assistant to do and find everything for them, when they're offered the chance to get an "intelligent car" that can answer them where is the nearest Starbucks because, well, they'll jump on the occasion.

I see many adverts from car manufacturers praising their "connected" features. And many people seeing this as something really, truly important to them.

So expect "intelligent cars" to be the norm some years down the line. Everything's trying to be connected. Even kid toys.

This sounds like someone not keeping noticing the obvious because "that's the way we've always done it". A cars ID and VIN have always been related because it was really helpful for a long time, sounds like time to separate them out.

Forcing a bluetooth pair and key exchange onboard sounds like the easiest fix for this.
