no 3D acceleration to play games

just bought a gateway with windows 8 and can't play some of the games I used to play. I get an error message that says something like "no 3D acceleration or you may have to reboot your system." I was able to play games in xp, vista and 7. I have AMD RADEON 7640G w/graphics system memory (what ever all this is). When I go into my display properties (I think) I did see Standard 3D. Is there anything I can do to solve these gaming issues?

I updated my graphic card three days ago. I already had the latest driver installed. Really, I think I've done everything humanly possible! I really am very frustrated!

Sorry I know that answer is frustrating to get 😉.. But it does sound like a driver issue. I would try to do a fresh installation of the drivers. Uninstalling the old drivers using driver sweeper.

Could you provide a link to the laptop you have?

Also have you checked if your laptop is running in power saving mode?

It is not running in power saving mode. I don't use the battery unless I leave town. I went to Gateway.com and then to support. My computer is a Gateway Aspire E1-521-0851. I noticed when I went to device manager it does not show a video card--there must be something in my computer or I wouldn't be able to play or see anything but this is one of those issues I really don't know anything about. I'm not savvy enough with comps or windows 8 to know how it operates. However, when I went to my graphics properties, I did see 3D standard. I initially had a hard time with 8 but I really like it now. I'm not much on cell phones or ipads so this was a learning experience for me. If someone tells me what to do with issues, I can usually figure it out. Gateway had me update my lan and wireless lan drivers which I did at the same time.

sorry for the confusion. My laptop at home is a Gateway. I think when I responded to one of the questions, I was at work on my ACER and gave those specs. So very sorry for the confusion and I think I realized that after I answered one of the questions. My Gateway is NV52L with AMD Radeon 7640G with graphics system memory, AMD Quad Processor (This from memory). I have updated all my drivers. It is almost like something in my graphics is disabled but (I think in my graphics properties) it does say STANDARD 3D. This is just so frustrating! I am going to try hooking up my LCD monitor and see if that changes anything. I think I saw that in someone's response somewhere. Did the CCC update on Saturday.

When you try to install CCC does it allow you to actually complete the installation?

If you can take a picture of your video adapter in device manager please upload it to the forum so we can get a indication of your problem.

Have gone to Big Fish Games with problem. Been working with them for about a week. After much digging, they have determined that this game has issues with Windows 8. I did do a few other things they suggested and can open games that I couldn't before. So, I am giving up on this game in hopes that the developers perhaps will address the issue. Thank you so very much for all of your input and suggestions--at least my computer is in excellent shape!!
