no 3dfx or nvidia ? what then?

Arent there any good graphics boards out there besides the Nvidia and Voodoo offerings And ima not talking about ATi either. I want a cheap card to play games with. I already own both a voodoo 3 and a geforce 256 so.. There must be more out there ..

You might want to take a look at the Matrox line...

What the hell is wrong with your GeForce 256? 3D processors aren't cheap or easy to make. It's not the 2D card market anymore where any old joe schmo can make a chip and slap it on a cheap board with 1 meg or 512K of memory. Computers are 20 times more graphics intense compared to 5 years ago.

take a look at tom's graphic guide on this page. it goes back over a year and has examples of cards and their performance. you should look at the matrox g400 or a newer card that has just come out the evil KYRO. tom just did a review on it.

however i'm not aware of any "cheap" cards that play 3d games really respectfully that aren't made by 3dfx or nvidia.

Well, I'm personally leaned toward the nVidia cards, but Matrox has a line too.

the Matrox cards are EXTREMELY slow, but they have the best image quality

You're lucky you have GeForce, I'm still using a Voodoo II for graphics. I have a Savage4 32mb card, but the drivers were buggy as hell, so I'm back to using a Voodoo II for gaming. I'm using beta drivers for it and can play any 3d game in Windows 2000 Pro, which is cool.
