No admin rights to device manager

I just re-imaged a machine with xp
- made the image from the same machine, im trying to confirm that the image works
the computer re-imaged no problems, but there is no network card avalible in ncpa.cpl even though the drivers is installed so im trying to update drivers.

When i go into control panel i get the following error:
"You do not have the sufficent privleges to uninstall devices or to change device properties or device drivers.
please contact administrator, or logout and log in again as an administrator and try again"

Now im the only account currently configured and im the administrator...
any1 have any advice or anything please?

Im the administrator of the computer - im logged in as administrator
I have full access to all other features in windows i can change as admin
its just the device manager when i open it, i get that message and i cant install, edit or uninstall any drivers, i dont need to change the password

Maybe you have a virus, can you do a scan with antivir?
You could create a test user with admin rights, then you can test the device manager with this user.
If you have full access, it`s a problem with your normal admin account.
