[SOLVED] No display after CPU upgrade (i5-4440 > i7-4790)

Hello mates,

Today was supposed to be a happy day. After I got my "new" i7-4790 CPU, I was surprised that I got no display at all (fans and leds are OK).

Bios updated to the latest version 3602
Battery removed
CMOS reset
RAM reseating

So I put the previous CPU, got the message that the BIOS was reset > OK > operation system normally running.

Did I forget to do something?

Asus h81m-c

Thanks

Try to post outside the case, on a cardboard box. Take everything apart, down to the standoff screws. I agree to examine the socket closely for bent pins. Also try using only 1 memory stick and try it in 2-3 different slots.
You haven't missed anything, it should be that simple.

Do you know for sure that the 4790 is functional?
I bought it on adverts. The seller said he removed it from a working desktop. He said that this Friday he is going to swap to another one. He emphasized that the desktop was working.

Since there's no other way to test the new cpu, it sounds like a bad cpu--especially since your original one worked again.
The seller brought me another i7-4790 CPU and I had the exactly same problem.
Just to confirm, I moved the jumper to reset cmos, removed the battery, bios updated, no success.

This seller has more than 300 good feedback in Adverts and 0 bad feedback. He said "I just removed this one from another working machine, it has to work".

I started believe that the CPU is not the problem. What should I do?

Bios update would be helpful. Put the old cpu back in and download the most current bios for your motherboard to a usb thumb drive.

Edit: that'll teach me to not read the whole post. Sry, 3602 seems to be the only one on Asus's support site.

Can you source a replacement motherboard that is known good and compatable with the 4790?

Intel h87 and z87 motherboards are like $60-$80 on ebay, maybe try that?
I thought the same but I did upgrade this cpu because it was cheap. If I knew that I was supposed to change the MB as well I wouldn't do it, or maybe try another generation but I really don't want do spend money with it at this time.

Maybe I'll try to return the CPU but not felling comfortable about the seller, he delivered and was nice to me.

I'm at a loss - the board supports a 4790 as of BIOS revisions from 6 years ago, so shouldn't be a BIOS concern.

Do you have a system speaker attached? Getting any beep codes?

Can't remember how the LEDs are configured, but do you have any that remain a solid red?

Have you checked the CPU socket to see if there are any bent pins?

Have you tried to post with just the basics? Single stick of memory, no GPU etc?

I don't have a speaker attached.
I just fully tried without the GTX, using motherboard's VGA port. No success. Switching processors, displays normally on vga.
I forgot to check the led, I think it was solid red but not sure, I'm to nervous to switch processors again to check led lol
