Question No Display After Installing New Fan on Heatsink – Need Help!

Hey everyone,

I know this might sound a bit stupid, but I had no choice due to time constraints and a lack of options. Here’s my situation:

I couldn’t find a fan that perfectly fit my CPU heatsink, so I decided to use zip ties to mount a new fan onto it. I know it’s not ideal, but I really needed to make it work since I have work tomorrow, and my PC has to be up and running.

The Problem:

After installing the new fan and powering on my PC:

• GPU fans are spinning.
• GPU RGB lights are working.
• Motherboard RGB lights are working.
• The new CPU fan is spinning.
• RAM sticks are lighting up.

Everything seems to be working, but here’s the issue:

• I connected my PC to my OLED monitor (via DP 2.1) and my TV (via HDMI from the GPU) to see if either would display anything. Neither shows anything.

• I can’t even get into the BIOS. It’s like the system isn’t detecting the display at all.

• My motherboard is an ASRock Z370 Extreme4.

What I’ve Tried So Far:

1. Reseated the RAM – Took them out, cleaned the slots, and inserted them back.

2. Checked all cables – Everything looks properly plugged in (power cables, HDMI/DisplayPort cables, etc.).

3. Tested two displays – Neither my monitor nor my TV picks up a signal.

4. Verified components – Everything powers on: GPU, fan, motherboard RGBs, and RAM lights.

Questions:

1. What could be causing this issue?
2. How can I troubleshoot this quickly? I need my PC running by tomorrow for work.
3. Could my GPU not outputting a signal be due to a connection issue, or did I mess something up while installing the fan?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know this was a last-minute, desperate fix, but I’m in a bind and need to get this sorted ASAP.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.

If you remove the added fan, does your system regain life? Speaking of, what fan are we looking at here?

New fan connected to CPU_FAN header on the MB ? Is it same type 3pin or PWM as previous one?
