I have upgraded a Alienware Aurora R2. The problem is that when changing the cpu it will not display on the screen, it sends the monitor into power save mode!! If I swop back to the original cpu it works fine.
The full story, the pc was a all stock R2 with a i3 530 cpu, 4gb ram over 3 slots and a redwood ati 5760 gpu.
I changed the cpu to a i5 760, the gpu to a gtx 690 and the replaced the ram with 8gb hyper fury x over 2 slots. All powered up but no display (goes into power save mode).
So I went back step by step and the unit would not except the ram at all, so that was first conclusion. So I preceded using the original ram but using only one 2gb stick, still no display. I finally got to the cpu and when I put the old cpu back in up came the display, all perfect working fine.
So as of now, I have the new GPU in working fine, the one stick of ram working fine and everything boots up fine with no problems. The moment I put the new cpu in though, it will not display anything (power save mode), put the old one back in works fine.
I thought this may be a power issue with the gtx 690 being a power hungry card. So I looked at other hardware to see if I could improve, so I removed the wireless pcie card, unplugged the 4 hard drives (that are standard with this unit) and used 2 low power ssd's. I then tested the unit with the new cpu and again no display swopped it back to the i3 and it works perfect.
So basically, everything works fine now with the gtx gpu and one stick of ram and 2 ssd's but the moment I swop cpu's it will not display the screen. Im lost.
I also tried resetting the bios and cmos and i have turned off the raid confog on boot up etc.
These units only come with a 525w or 875w psu and I cannot get in to tell which one is in there but even with the latter which I have based all my calculations on it should still work.
