No display coming up on my screen.

So I was cleaning out my PC after downloading AVG. I set it to shutdown after the scan had finished and when I came back to it and turned it on, it seemed to have a slight error to do with the hdd that I wasn't able to catch. After it booted u into windows 10 the gui wasn't loading properly so I restarted.
It all loaded up better showing all the icons but as soon as i clicked on the taskbar the computer froze apart from the mouse which I could move around.
After restarting a couple of times and having the same problem, it then just would't load up a sceen. It does not show anything, no loading up so the screen just goes to sleep mode. I have tested the hdmi cable (works) and the screen (works) but I am at a loss for what the problem might be.
I have dissasembled and reassembled my PC and have tried other screens to no effect.
Specs :
GTX 960 4GB
8GB of hyperx ram + 8GB of standard dell
z97p-d3 gigabyte motherboard
i 5 core processor
evga 500w psu
1TB of hdd (don't know more details)

What kind of a problem am I looking at here?

do a disk check by:

run a chkdsk /f on your OS partition

then run an sfc /scannow

Thing is it doesn't let me boot up or anything, it only has its fans on and the power indicator light is on but nothing comes up on the screen. This means I can't run checks at all.

enter this command
sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows
where c: is your boot drive
