Hi guyz,
I own a used Lenovo Thinkpad E480 which I ordered online.

So I upgraded my Windows from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I just noticed an issue with the display in a sense that when I close the lid or when the laptop's screen turns off, then If I use keyboard or mouse to wake it up. It does not respond or wake up. Then the only solution is to turn it off from the power button and start it again.

I have tried different solutions for it like tweaking the power settings and updating the graphics driver etc. But sometimes it happens when i just close the laptop's lid and after some time open it and it behaves the same, No display, only the lights like capslock, power putton lights are on and no response.

Kindly provide a solution and one more thing that I wanna know is the difference between thinkpad E480 and E490. Is it worth it to change from E480 to E490.

Well, I returned the laptop for local seller warranty, after a week and a half they shipped it back and they told me that the issue is resolved. I used the laptop thinking that the issue is now resolved. I tried testing it and it was not fixed.

So I seached the internet again and atlast found a solution for this problem.

The solution is very simple, you need to go to the advanced power settings and there you need to click on "PCI EXPRESS" and turn off the "Link state power management".

This solution worked for me and saved from this terrible problem. Because your screeen goes black, it hangs and you can't save your work. only solution to deal with it is to turn off your laptop and start it again.

Did you upgrade to Windows 11 using the internal upgrade path? If so, you should format and reinstall the OS after recreating your bootable USB installer for Windows 11. Install the OS in offline mode, then manually install all drivers that are the latest version in an elevated command. After you're done with the drivers, you can connect to the internet and then run an update on the OS.

In your current state, you should check and see if you have BIOS updates pending.

For the sake of relevance are these the specs to your laptop;
